Episode Discussion 3.08 | Novus Ordo Seclorum { Airs November 19th }

In the aftermath of Jenny and Joe's run-in with Sophie, Abbie is in deep water with Reynolds. Meanwhile, the Witnesses deal with lasting implications of the shard and find themselves in grave danger as they come face-to-face with a greater evil than they could have imagined.

Pandora is really an interesting character for me to watch.
Dang for Jenny, her life bonded to Pandora's lover... at least we know that she's been waiting for this moment, to bring her lover back to life. The Hidden One with that hook? my goodness. Jenny sure had a tough episode.

I love seeing that sad flashback of when Abbie abandoned Jenny. it was sad to watch but it makes one understand Abbie's motivation more for not giving up on her sister ever again. This episode proved she'd do anything in her power to get her back.
I loved the scene between Pandora and Abbie, Pandora sure hit all those tough wounds for Abbie.

I loved how Ichabod said that Jenny and Abbie is as close to family as he has left... foreshadowing to the end of this episode huh?

Abbie turning in her FBI badge because she can't tell Agent Reynolds the truth about what is going on. I feel a bit sad for her because it felt like her life was finally where she wanted it to be and now she is stepping down from what she loves to do and then end of this episode... which I will get to in a bit.
Going back to Reynolds, what the heck is he up to?

Can I mention how much I loved hearing the Shout song? anytime the song comes on I feel like dancing. I could have survived without seeing that throwing up though. lol

I love Jenny even captive talking about how ugly Pandora's man is looking.

That last scene. Abbie makes the ultimate sacrifice to save her sister. Of course I don't believe the death is permanent but nevertheless I was still shocked at the ending. Before that ending scene I love how Ichabod and Abbie talked about their chances in this fight and about how they've overcome all the battles, so even though they might go into this war with the odds stacked against them, they always won so this time shall not be any difference.

I loved Abbie second guessing herself right now though, thinking if she wasn't thinking impartial because her sister was in there. Overall that scene with Ichabod and Abbie was my favorite of the episode. How will Ichabod deal with Abbie's "death" you talk about a guy who's lost every family he's loved.

I liked that scene between Joe and Ichaboe. I love how much Joe cares for Jenny. Although I'm curious if it's foreshadowing to the future though? because he told Joe of the lines you can't cross or forces you can't unleash but now that he might think Abbie is... a gooner, will he feel the same about forces.

No I didn't. I followed along on Twitter though. I don't watch anymore, but I love reading the commentary. Tonight's episode seems to be a 50-50 split between ppl who think it's the greatest thing ever and those who say they're tired of Abbie always sacrificing herself.

I thought it was a good episode.

Loved Abbie in the opening scene in Danny's office. Well played. Danny questioning her, Sophie's lobbing in questions of her own. Abbie was basically not even looking at Sophie. When she asked a question if Abbie bothered answering at all, she did so looking at Danny. Then when she did look at her it was with the why are you even talking because you are not my boss face. If you cant get your suspect to talk, that's your problem. I loved her taking this line with them because if he was bringing her into the case, he should have really brought her in. Loved it when she let's him know she doesn't have time sit and pick things apart with them, which is what the viewers are thinking the whole time, surprised she even bothered going in.

The story regarding The Hidden One held my interest. He seems like Orion 2.0 on some levels with his aims of world cleansing. However unlike Orion he and Pandora seek to rule. Then again Orion may have said something similar about he and Abbie ruling, I can't remember.

I am done with this show. LMAO!!!! Um, I think Pandora gave it to Nevins, and I was WEAK when she told him her husband was back and he had to go because she didn't want him finding out that he used her box, ie got the box. They did flash to the scene where Nevins actually used the box, but the way she said it, yeah. So that happened.

I liked the scene when Ichabod talked Joe out of doing anything too foolish to save Jenny. Though I do have a soft spot for people willing to become absolute monster's to save the ones they love. We'll see how Crane does with Abbie placed in a similar situation.

Abbie and Danny's second scene was really good. He's knows there's stuff she isn't telling him, and is clearly resentful of it. Perhaps that's why he didn't tell her everything about the investigation. It was sad and funny at the same time when he essentially yelled, Hey I'm your boss now, you can't walk out on me. What could be heard though unspoken were the lines; Again, and Now you have to stay. lol. Nice acting from those two. Very sad to see her hand in her badge after everything she did to get it, but at least it doesn't look like it's going to stick. I wonder what agency is interested in Abbie, he's referring to her as an "asset" which is a term thrown around a lot on Homeland, I wonder if it's CIA or just a special sector of the FBI. At any rate I forsee her having to make a should I stay, or should I go type of decision at the end of the season, wherein Crane will probably confess his love and kiss her to convince her to stay. Yep can't stop shipping. Off the wagon. Tom Mison pushed me.

When they're finally going in to rescue Jenny, it's clear that something is different about this particular undertaking as they recount some of their past battles of significance. At the same time Crane seems confident. Abbie on the other hand already knows that she isn't going to come back out unless it's with her sister. So I was a little surprised that Ichabod didn't pick up on that. Abbie had to do this. She holds too much regret from not protecting Jenny before., and this was her chance at redemption from that act. It's funny though whenever I watch that flashback, I think Jenny should have just kept her mouth shut like her big sister told her to. It would have been nothing Abbie could have done for her had they both been in a mental institution.

So sad for Ichabod and Jenny when they realized what she was doing. Ichabod looked horrified just before she went into the tree. He asked her not to, she did anyway. Interested in seeing where the tree leads, and what she encounters while she's there. I wonder when they come back if Abbie will have been gone for a while. If so it will be interesting to see how Ichabod an Jenny cope with her absence.

I liked the show, it was good, at the same time, I was left with the feeling that it could have been more. Last episode imo was better.

I enjoyed this episode. I'm not sure I can say I loved it, because I still care nothing for Pandora and her God Boyfriend. Honestly, I'm at the point where I would pay money not to hear the phrase "My love" ever again on this show. It's like it's supposed to express "epic love stories" and it just falls flat. And the interview with CC saying it's a "love story" between them.....yeah, no thanks. They already bored me, and now they bore me even more. Thanks for that.

I know people are going to be divided on the ending - but I didn't mind Abbie's sacrifice in this episode at all- and I also think it leaves the characters and the story in an interesting position going forward with potential for REAL character development. I would actually rather they keep it for a few episodes and not have Abbie come back/or them get her back right away. As long as they show her in some capacity, it would be better for story and characterization if they make this count. Otherwise, why bother with it?

A desperate Ichabod doing reckless things to get Abbie back because he cares so much for her could go along way for giving him some character progression, furthering their relationship, and could be very intriguing to me, depending on what they do with it. I've seen spec elsewhere that he could release monsters from her box, try to regrow the tree....etc.... That could be pretty awesome, IMO. Seeing Ichabod, Jenny and Joe struggling to get Abbie back could give the show the urgency and emotional energy it sorely needed in the first half.

They could also use this to give Abbie some character development, open the character up emotionally..... She's been so numb to me this season, even over her career that she supposedly wanted so badly. I loved seeing her stand up to Reynolds in the office, hand over her gun and badge without a backward glance because she had her sister to find and Team Witness had evil to take out.

Abbie's sacrifice to me at the end of this episode isn't at all like the one in the season one finale, where it was purely to release Katrina (which basically rewarded Ichabod for drawing the map behind her back and turned out to be all for nothing anyway) and she just did it so that Ichabod couldn't "hand her over to Moloch" himself. This was for her sister, and I also got the impression that if she hadn't done what she did they all would've been killed, and probably more than just them, if that thing had exploded. This episode made Abbie look like the hero she is, IMO. They could also use this happening to her to open the character up this season.

Now we have a chance to see Ichabod fight for her, do everything to get her back, with Joe and Jenny. Heavy on the foreshadowing with the flashbacks to Revere's brother and his advice to Crane, and Joe contemplating becoming a Wendigo or tapping into that fury again to save Jenny and Ichabod talking him out of it - only to lose Abbie.

This was another solidly written Ichabod. No Zoe + no Betsy + no over the top cartoonish rants + more "Captain Crane"+ more focus on Abbie/Team Witness/Evil = an Ichabod I could enjoy again.

I adored Abbie's little "My man" at the end of their conversation. Their entire conversation and their last look towards each other in this episode proved to me that I still ship them when the writing is there with the chemistry.

I think there's more potential for the back half than this first half, I'm actually cautiously anticipating the show's return.

But I still care nothing for Pandora or the Hidden One. Hopefully the heroes' side of things make up for them.

And I still need Headless back, Show.

I too thought it was solid episode. Hmm, wonder if this has to do with the fact that none of Crane's women made a cameo? LOL but kidding aside, yeah there were lots of parallels here. Pandora and her husband, Jenny and Joe. Part of me did think they were copy catting what happened in S1 finale, but this time its not a spur of the moment decision and something Abbie had geared herself up for. It would have been nice if Ichabod frantically ran after her, he did a little bit but if it was me directing I would have told him to go the distance on that scene because I think it is important that the audience gets that Abbie is his safety net and without her, he's going to have some struggles.

And I want to see those struggles and every gory detail they kick up. Maybe putting a little difference between these two will help them realize what has been missing. And like Cheshire said, they need to find that sense of urgency again. It was touched on with Abbie sacrificing her job and life for Jenny, but it needs to be there between the two who claim to have a bond that stretches across space and time.

I still dont see anything happening romantically between them, but can only hope this might help them to repair what had been broken.

I've definitely noticed a difference in the past two episodes of no Betsy or Zoe.

I definitely hope their separation/struggle to reunite lasts longer than one episode. They need to make this opportunity count for the characters.

Also, I'm interested in where Abbie ends up. I hope they explore it and how it affects her.

My only issue with the episode was...... DANNY REYNOLDS IS A TWIT! Making that phone call, saying how they lost the"ASSET" Well, yeah... that only happened cause he was a GIANT jerk face and pushed Abbie to resign.

Other than that I liked this episode.

Pandora and her GodHusband, to me, are oddly shippable. I like them.

Reynolds alternately bores and irritates me. There's something about his attitude/demeanor towards Abbie that bugs me, and that added to my negative feelings towards the FBI stuff just puts me off.

I would have been able to tolerate Danny better if he had come in as a NEW FACE, not someone Abbie was with at Quantico.... and not with him still having feelings for her and showing flashes of jealousy that Ichabod was "LIVING" with Abbie.

The whole FBI thing falls completely flat for me in general, Reynolds definitely included, but I agree - bringing him in as her ex wasn't the way to go. They haven't really given him or him and Abbie anything compelling to make me care.

Same here. There is nothing in his character that makes me like him. At first he came off as "I'm here to settle into my job, but it's just a stepping stone for me." And now he's "You're not telling me everything" And getting jealous. Ugh.... No thanks. Danny, pack your bags and get gone....

Yeah, the whole "fast track" thing didn't make him interesting to me. I wonder how they'll write him going forward - if he knows of the supernatural or if he's answering to people who do.

They haven't really written much between him and Abbie; minus awkward convos about advancing their careers. There was just no hook there from the beginning. That's down to the writers, though.
