Misha said that Dean and Cas were actually suppose to fight it out together, but M and J discussed it and said that Cas wouldn't fight Dean because Cas wouldn't want to do that. From Jib today.

I'm glad they have such good reads on their characters. I'm kind of disappointed that it was M and J's discussion that led to the change of the ending scene and not the writers original intention.

This scene still continues to break me every time I think about it. The way Dean tells Cas that he wont miss next time and that Cas and Sam need to stay away from him. Dean is pissed at them, worried about hurting them and possibly disappointing them. That's a lot of weight. I love the way Cas wouldn't leave Dean's side.
