Alfred really pissed me off. And Selina was so upset when he told her that Bruce would be better off without her in his life. I hope that once she gets over the initial hurt that she decides that Alfred can go screw himself and tries to see Bruce anyways.

You can't tell a teenager to stay away from her crush, that'll just make her even more crazy for him.

This episode broke my heart.

You could like see so easily how sad she was because she actually cared about what Alfred thought about her, and because she's in love with Bruce, and you see the last scene, she knows she's in love with him.

She murdered a guy who, right or wrong, had been Alfred's friend for many years and in doing so made Bruce complicit in the act. Sure there were extreme extenuating circumstances but that doesn't just erase it. There had to be some kind of consequence to her action and clearly Alfred wasn't going to call the cops on her. Still it was really shocking. The entire scene made me cry inside. I haven't had the stomach to rewatch it.

Still, it's up to Bruce whether he wants Selina in his life or not. Alfred can advise against it, but it's really Bruce's decision to make.

This friend betrayed him, tried to steal from him and almost killed him. And he was send after Bruce, don't forget it, and then threatened to expose him, so clearly it was either Bruce or him, Selina knew it and she did what Bruce couldn't, it wasn't a good act, but the situation demanded it and in the end he got what he deserved, as the traitor he was. I have no idea why you would be sorry over the death of this human trash, friend or not, and even punch a child who tried to protect her friend.

I agree with all of the above but in the end she murdered a person and made Bruce complicit in the murder, which is a very serious crime. I don't condone the act, but I understand the show's rationale behind it.

I'm not trying to excuse her crime either, I was upset when she did it, but...punching? He could lecture her at least. Abuse is just hard for me to watch in any form.

I thought it was really shocking too. It's interesting that we react so strongly against it when I can't remember anyone being mad at Alfred for teaching Bruce to beat the hell out of a kid with his father's watch in season one. I honestly think it's got less to do with her young age and more to do with the fact that she's a girl and we all like her.

Another thing is I don't think Alfred thinks Selina listens to lectures, and he's right about that, but still, what he did will only make things worse.

The dumb thing is that this is obviously intended. Alfred hitting Selina to underscore the severity of her crimes in season 1 is meant to create tension between Bruce and Selina and introduce Silver, who's cute enough but can't compare to Cat at all.

To me it had to do with him being an adult and her being a child. If she was a boy, I'd have reacted the same because I hate when adults abuse kids. They're kids, no matter what they did. I didn't approve of that guy being punched, but it was Bruce that punched him, so it was different, in no way good, but less outrageous when a grown up punches a kid. However I agree that unfortunately men/boys punching each other is very much overlooked in our society and considered a proper way of communication between them when in fact it's not.
