Romances don't last long in this show do they. It's almost like the writers are just reminding us that they are human and do have lives but they don't want to dwell on it so it's like

that probably is what the writers are trying to do

but I don't see why they don't just mention them every now and again, they don't need to feature relationships heavily but they also don't need to break everyone up all the time! I understand that they don't want Sherlock and Joan seeing other people, but they also like to sabotage Gregson and Bell's relationships.

I think they want to show us that in this field of work romantic relationships aren't easy? If so, we already get it writers: we won't date cops
