Good episode. Based on the story "The Cardboard Box" in which a pair of ears were mailed to somebody, although they were the ears of two separate people. They even used some of the character names from the story, like Cushing and Jim Browner. I thought growing the ears on her back was gross though.

I liked Lestrade's story, but I think Holmes was lying in the end that he didn't set up Lestrade. If Holmes didn't know those people or do the voices on the phone, then why did he know their first names?

I didn't get the impression that he was lying I don't remember if Lestrade mentioned their first names though, maybe the writers made a mistake?

Joan got the files from Det. Bell, and Holmes opened the folders to look at him. that's how he knew the names! LOL! He opened Joan's mail!

Joan: You opened my mail?
Sherlock: How long have you been living here?

But if he opened the mail, how do we know that he didn't do something to the files? I think he would have forgotten the names if he didn't care about the muggings and was concentrating on the kidnapping case.

If Sherlock reads something, mindless or not, I don't think he would forget it.

that's true.

That probably is the explanation I don't see any reason why Sherlock would lie about doing it, maybe to Lestrade but not to Joan.

there's no gain in lying to Joan, except to court her ire. sherlock has no need to do that.

In the end I'm not sure Sherlock was lying or not. I would say he was though. It would be more like him to do something like that to help Lestrade.

I agree, I am sure it is possible that Sherlock did set it up for Lestrade but I don't think he did because I see no reason why he wouldn't just tell Watson. It's not like he would be ashamed about it and he usually tells Watson those kind of things.
