Fall TV First Impression: CBS' Scorpion If you — and by “you” I mean “someone other than Nina Tassler” — ever wondered, “What would The Big Bang Theory look like as a procedural?,” this is about it. It’s a grabby, fun premise, yet one that ultimately hinges on the cleverness of the fixes that Walter’s “Scorpion” team come up with each week. Because while the pilot chugs along at a good pace, features a couple of nifty hacks and stages a few cool set pieces, the eventual save-the-day solution is patently absurd; avoiding such acute eyerollers in the future will be paramount. But pull that off and I’m on board, overtaxed DVR be damned. No, McPhee does not play a brainiac; instead, she offers a nice tangent to Walter’s story, as a diner waitress whose young son, she learns, is a not “challenged” but a genius himself. (I tell no lies: The closing scene with her, Walter and the rugrat put a lump in my throat.) Her role is also to teach Scorpion’s misfits how to interact with the rest of society, a trope best doled out sparingly. THE TVLINE BOTTOM LINE | Like (the super-charming) Jane the Virgin, Scorpion finds itself having to find an audience in a tough time slot — and one that CBS is not known to program with a drama. That said, no one in this world has ever lost money by underestimating the draw of a CBS procedural.

Comic-con stuff

Katharine McPhee chats about ‘Scorpion’ during Comic-Con panel Earlier this afternoon, Katharine McPhee joined her co-stars Elyes Gabel and Robert Patrick to promote their new series Scorpion at Comic-Con in San Diego. Before a Q&A panel with the three stars and a few of the show’s executive producers, fans in attendance at Ballroom 20 got a sneak peek of the series premiere episode. During the panel, Katharine admitted that she is excited to get into action as Paige Dineen, a character that is essentially the opposite of her previous role, Karen Cartwright. “I’m playing a character that’s so different from who I played on Smash with all the action elements we have on the show,” she said. “When I read the script, I thought it was so different and fun for me to try. It’s also a more mature character than I’ve ever played before.” Kat also told attendees that she is still working on music. The cast joked that she is constantly singing between takes, proving that some things never change!

The same happened when Megan was in SSTW, everyone talked about the fact that she wasn't going to sing Megan said that, if that would have happened (like a karaoke scene), she wanted for her character to sound very bad, because there's nothing worse than to go to a karaoke with professional singers, she said

Crop tops are everywhere, lately I hope new HQ promotional photoshoots will be released soon. At Comic-Con there were a lot of stuff with the vectorial posters of the characters.

Katharine McPhee Only Had How Many Days to Prepare For Her Scorpion Role? Katharine McPhee’s upcoming role on the new CBS drama Scorpion is completely different from any other acting gig she’s taken on, so you’d think the former American Idol contestant would have time to do her homework in order to play the single mom, right? “I got cast on a Sunday and started shooting on a Tuesday morning,” Katherine tells OK!. “I literally got cast late on a Sunday afternoon so I had very little time to prepare. It’s very different for me because I can relate to a girl who wants to be on stage and wants to sing and wants to dance but it’s a little bit harder for me to relate to a woman who has had harder times at an early age, got pregnant at a young age and has raised a child on her own. I had a really strong director who expected a lot of me and challenged me. It took me a couple of days to get into it but I’m really thrilled I get to be a part of the show.” Katharine, who stunned at Comic-Con this weekend in tbagslosangeles’ Panama Top and Scuba Fit and Flare Skirt, explains a little more about the action-packed series. “It’s centered around a group of geniuses who are at the beginnings of their career that is something that actually exists today in the real world,” she says. “It’s based on a real person and my character intermingles with them when there’s a crisis at the LAX airport. I’m a single mother, a waitress and with my eight-year-old son at the restaurant and we suddenly become immersed in their world. My son is a challenged child. He’s had lots of issues and I don’t connect with him but by meeting these geniuses they inform me that my child is not so much challenged as he is a genius. They suddenly become this incredible link to my child, this connection to my child that I’ve always wanted to have.” Scorpion premieres Mondays this fall on CBS.
