As much as I'm sure he hates to admit it chasing after Joe pulled him out of two depressions. I don't think he realized what it would be like for Joe to suddenly not exist anymore.
I kind of laughed when Gwen said that line about Joe having a piece of him that she could never reach. She made Joe sound like a home wrecking ex-girlfriend |

I'm sure he would have enjoyed hearing that Gwen said that. 'See, Ryan, even your girlfriend knows we're soulmates!' I'm disappointed we'll never see Joe's reaction to finding out Ryan will be a father. I can't decide if he'd be amused or annoyed. |

 . Joe looked like he was conceding defeat with that little head tilt of his. Part of me is glad because it was really hard to watch Ryan having a downward spiral with Joe egging him on. I'm also really sad though because their relationship has always been one of my favorite parts of the show and now it's gone for good. |

He definitely tried bringing Ryan to his level though. I guess even Joe knows when it's time to let go after everything that's happened
