There was definitely a note of bitterness in his voice when he asked Theo about Gwen.

That's the sad thing about Ryan's character he pushes everyone away because he hates himself and doesn't think he deserves them. I think that's why Ryan just sits there silently whenever Joe talks about their connection/similarities

Yep, he didn't really have anything else in the end. I always thought it was a nice touch that they had Joe relax once he saw Ryan at the execution
