Sebastian/Jonathan: What do you think it would be like if Valentine had bought you up along with me? Would you have loved me? Clary: Well, you're my brother. I would have loved you. I would've . . . had to. Sebastian/Jonathan: I have a fetish for damsels in distress. Clary: Don't be sexist. Sebastian/Jonathan: Not at all. My services are also available to gentlemen in distress. Clary: Actually, I think he stayed because of me. Jace: Because of you? Hoping for another hot date, was he? Clary: No - and our date wasn't hot. In fact, it wasn't even a date. Anyway, that's not the point. When he came into the Hall, he kept trying to get me to go outside with him so we could talk. He wanted something from me. I just don't know what. Jace: Or maybe he just wanted you . . . not that way. I mean maybe he wanted to bring you to Valentine. Jace: I could point out that's not a dress, that's underwear, but I doubt that would be in my best interest. Sebastian/Jonathan: Need I remind you, that that is my sister? Jace: Most brothers would be delighted to see such a clean-cut gentleman as myself squiring their sisters about town. Sebastian/Jonathan: See, there you go. You're always looking at me like that. Clary: Like what? Sebastian/Jonathan: Like I burn down animal shelters for fun and light my cigarettes with orphans. Clary: I don't care what you think. You're not my brother. You're a murderer. Sebastian/Jonathan: I really don't see how those things cancel each other out. Simon: So, technically, even though Jace isn't actually related to you, you have kissed your brother. Clary: Shut up, Simon. Sebastian/Jonathan: I need Jace, but in his heart, he's not like me. But you are. She turned to look at Sebastian, lying on the bed. He was shirtless, and even in the dim light the old whip weals across his back were visible. She had always been fascinated by Shadowhunters but had never thought she would find one whose personality she could stand for more than five minutes, until Sebastian. I hope Clary  plays a major role  in Sebastian's redemption  because I bet it would be EPIC.  I honestly believe throughout his arc  we've seen glimpses of his humanity  but he tends to take one step forward  and five steps back.  __________________

That's true. I believe in redemption, and you can tell how Sebastian tries a little to understand what it would be like to change, change for Clary above all. He does seem to care for her in a creepy way. There are some people who redeem themselves in order to be liked by the peers that have hated them because of their "crimes".

I would love to know how readers reacted  to the revelation about Clary and Jace in the first book, what they thought about their relationship in the second (Did they still ship them even though they were siblings?) and about how relieved they were when Sebastian  was introduced.
