He did but chose to focus on a very specific narrow-minded approach.

Like a one-character POV. I get that the story is about Katniss but her interactions with everyone around her and especially Peeta, have a big effect on how her character is perceived.

CF was about Katniss, MJ was about Katniss, Francis never missed that little fact and still made the world a lot wider

Couldn't agree more with pretty much everything The focus is on Katniss in CF and MJ but we actually see the whole world working around her, that is what Gary should have taken to his advantage doing a movie versus the book. The book literally couldn't go beyond Katniss' POV and we were able to feel everything around her more than we did in the movie which had the ability to expand.

Yeah it really suffered because of it and Peeta's characterization along with it. So happy Francis was able to fix all that.
