in the case of both THG and HP, the movies at times complement the books in added dialogue, and the books complement the films in adding history, context, and further motivations of the characters.

in HP Deathly Hallows 2 film, in the Resurrection Stone scene, Lily Potter says 'always' to her son as he is about to go bravely to his death. that's not in the book, but it should be.

Especially when books are in the first person like THG was. The movies are able to give us over POV and show us more of what happens, like the HG movies showed us bits with Snow, Seneca and Plutarch.
