It makes it even more impressive how emotional and depressed they need to be for characters like Finnick and Peeta especially in MJ.

I wasn't such a Finnick fan in the books and in CF until I saw Sam during the CF promo months after CF came out in theatres and I fell in love. I still believed Finnick was too self assured (but not entirely the prick I thought he was) at the end of CF but I still couldn't relate to him even as I read MJ and I remember reading people lament over his death all over the internet and I was like O_o literally. I read the books twice and I still couldn't get it. Then I started watching the CF promo and BTS stuff on tumblr and youtube more vigorously. The more I saw him, the more Sam won me over, it helped when I realised he played the William in Snow White and the Huntsman because I didn't care for the pseudo romance between SW and the Huntsman, I wanted her with Sam's character. Watching Sam just broke down all those misconceptions I had about Finnick's character that even MJ (the book) couldn't shake off on its own. Even though the two are definitely nothing alike, Sam made me look past the "total preener" Finnick that offered Katniss a sugar cube and during my second MJ1 viewing I spent the entire time crying over the fact that Finnick was going to die, every time he was on screen tears would start streaming down my face in bucket loads, it was so sad!
Now my heart absolutely hurts when I think about what will happen to him in MJ2. I am now in the process of re-reading the books since my change of heart, it's going to be a bumpy, tear-soaked road to the epilogue. But I am glad I finally appreciated Finnick better than I did before, all thanks to Mr Claflin. Last edited by rpmaluki; 12-22-2014 at 09:45 PM |

^ This is like me reading exactly how things went for me with respect to Finnick and Sam. I read the books so fast the first time that I didn't actually get to appreciate most characters other than PK. Then I saw everyone freaking out about him then Sam comes in being all adorable and awesome and soon, after re-reading the series, I figured what everyone loved so much about Finnick and the rest was history, he's one of my favourites now.

I didn't like Finnick that much in CF but reading MJ and knowing his back story and what really happened to him as a Victor. it really broke my heart when he died. But Sam brought so many layers to Finnick in CF that you can't help to love.
