I just did a marathon on this show. And while there are so many things that are addicting about this show, there are so many things wrong.

My issue is how they even get away with thinking that they could get away with so much when the monarchy is so much about rules and etiquette. They would have so many people telling them how to do things what the rules are...it's just too unbelievable.

As well, so many plotholes....

This show is everything that is wrong with tv. As if the royal monarchy would be so filled with vitriol that they could not stand each other and a mother would so callously throw her children to the wolves? Elizabeth Hurley is no more queen than JLo could or would be. She dresses with her hair curled like a supermodel, wearing gaudy jewels that would never be worn on a daily basis as from a PR standpoint would be a faux pas.

There is no sympathy for the Queen. She has sex like it's going out of style. As if anyone working in that palace who has any semblance of meaning for what the monarchy is, would be able to stand that type of behavior. It isn't even hidden at all. I could care less about her 'LONG LOST LOVE". Pathetic. She goes on and on about duty but she can't let someone else keep it in their pants for her. She drones on and on about sacrifice and duty and she is nothing but a selfish ****.

I can't stand the uncle. Why would he even be living in the Palace? It makes no sense. He would have his own estate. Puh-lease. So much wrong with this.

As for the daughter. C'mon Hollywood, as if the monarchy would let their children be splayed all over the tabloids with the children doing drugs and drunk and all that crap. I think it's pathetic that Hollywood is trying to play off doing drugs as no big deal. ie. cousins putting drugs in their snatch? Really? How disgusting and pathetic is that at trying to make it a joke?

And Jasper and her are so trying to be all Shades of Grey. Which I personally think is sickening. He lies and tries to blackmail and control her and we're supposed to find that sexy? I find it revolting. I do not hate Jasper, but I do not want another BDSM style story shoved down my throat as some kind of big romantic LOVE. It is not.

As for the son, I think he's all right. I think he's an idiot for not freaking having a watch that tells time when he promises to go meet his father. TRY SETTING PRIORITIES!

This whole show could be really good. A really good premise, but they JUST HAD to go Hollywood with everyone hating each other and willing to betray each other whatever the cost.

It really is sickening.

I just want to know if anyone even BOTHERS to fact check what protocols and life would actually really be like? There would be SO MANY more people and SO MANY more staff around.

I really like aspects of the show. I loved how much the actress really made me believe Eleanor loved Robert and she him. I wish they would have had flashbacks of them. I would have liked to know what this amazing brother even looked like. That's slightly shoddy character and story telling. But her struggle is good. And they gave us reason to root for her, but she just keeps pushing away the opportunities.

I really do think with better thought-out planning and writing the story arcs could be a lot more solid and interesting. It's too bad they cast a woman who looks quite ****ty and playboy to play a queen mother. She is really a bad cast job - so with the uncle.

In the end the show is trying to hard to be a mix of Reign and Game of Thrones. And it doesn't work. Which is too bad because I like most of the cast other than the mother and the uncle.

It's a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I agree with many of the flaws the OP pointed out, yet the premise interests me so much. I can't think of any other show about a modern royal family.
