Veronica Mars #2:"Never underestimate the size of my cajones"

Old Thread

Thanks to UnsilentMajorty
Veronica Mars

Premise: 17 year old Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell) is an average high school student by day, and private investigator by night.

Her best friend, Lilly Kane, was murdered only a year ago and since then, her life of being in "the in-crowd" has taken a drastic turn to "scorned outsider" as she parts ways with her peers to stand by her father's side when, as the former town Sherrff, he insisted that Lily's killer may in fact be her own father, Jake Kane, a very respectable and influential businessman whose wealth and power rule over every facet of the town where Veronica lives... Including her peers and the high school she attends.

Official Site:

http://www.upn.com/shows/veronica_mars/index.php

Why You Should Watch:

If you're looking for a show that is as hip and edgy as "Buffy" was in her hey-day, look no further.

But where Buffy's fight was against fantastic creatures of the night... Veronica's quest for the truth hits closer to him as she delves into the seedy underworld that exists beneath the shiny facde of upper and middle class America to expose the realities of social and economic class warfare, dysfunctional families, race relations and how we sometimes lie to ourselves in able to create a truth we can all live by.

The History of Mars... The Show, not the Planet ;)

Here is some stuff for fans just getting into the show (like Subject)

These images are courtesy of Neptune-High.net

Lily tells Veronica "I've got a secret..."

Later that night, that secret costs Lily her life by the side of the pool at her and brother Duncan Kane's home:

Keith (Veronica's Dad and then acting Sheriff) thinks this man, Duncan Kane, Lily's own father (and possibly Veronica's) killed her...

Even when all evidence supports that this man, disgruntled employee Able Koontz did it:

What we know so far: (please correct me if I am wrong, or miss importnat clues)

-Lily was blugeoned to death with an unknown object

-A pair of Lily's sneakers and her back pack were found in Abel Koontz apartment/house boat (they were not bloody).

-Abel Koontz was a disgruntled former employee employed by Duncan Kane's company

-Supposedly, Jake, Celeste and Duncan Kane all had alibis at the time of Lily's death

-However, Veronica found out that a traffic camera photographed Lily's SUV driving around about 90 minutes AFTER she was killed (was it Duncan?)

The car had several outstanding speeding tickets prior to Lily's death... But one that supposedly happened the night Lily was murdered (the result of the traffic cam).

-Duncan, Lily's brother, has been heavily medicated for depression since his sisters untimely death.

Unbeknownst to his mother, he sometimes does not take his pills and prefers to live in the "real world" when it best suits him (like when persuing Veronica romantically hoping to rekindle whatever they had).

-Logan, Lily's former boyfriend right up until she died, has also been pretty bent out of shape over her death and his abusive home life only amplifies his feelings of powerlessness and despair... But he hides it well by being the best a*shole money can buy... Or, rather what he can do with his father's money to best piss people off.

He is not a suspect at this time.

Prime Suspects:

Celeste Kane - Showed a visible disdain and disapproval for her daughters "wild ways". Does not think highly of Veronica Mars and only tolerates her father, Keith Mars, since she believes she is better than them and will use them for whatever purposes she sees fit.

Jake Kane - Keith Mars has a "gut instinct" that leads him to believe it was in fact Lily's own father who killed his daughter... Even in the face of Abel Koontz and the accompanying evidence. Kieth insists it is an all to convenient frameup and this insistance cost him his job as the Sheriff.

Lianne Mars (Reynolds) - Veronica's mom. She split when Keith lost his position in an emergency recall election spearheaded by Celeste Kane to get even with the accusation of her husband in her only daughter's death.

Veronica has witnessed first hand her mother (supposedly) and Jake Kane having a rendezvou at a seedy motel (see picture above) when she found out her mother didn't leave town like she was told by her father.

Keith refuses to track down Lianne even though that is what he does for a living and could easily have her whereabouts within hours if he wanted. We don't know why he iis so adiment about NOT finding his wife...

Veronica found survaillance pictures (or where they hitman pictures?!) of herself in a safe deposit box that Lianne had.

She also recieved a cryptic phone call from her mother, from Las Vegas, that said it was not safe to come home yet, but that she loves Veronica and she urged to not try and find her anymore.

Veronica traced the call, drove to a Las Vegas trailer park, but found out she just missed her mother and her mother's former college room mate refused to tell Veronica where she went (or she possibly did not know).

As of right now...

Anyone is a prime suspect. Jake and Veronica may be half-siblings. Weevil and Lily may have hooked up prior to her death (for how long is unknown). Duncan continues to medicate himself... But it slowly coming around and he may in fact hold the keys to the entire mystery in his unmedicated state.

Did I miss anything?

Yeah I missed watching this great show from the begining. Keep reminding me. Thanks for all the info though. I didn't read it all because I'm a little tired and about to get some sleep. I noticed something though... below.. I think you meant Jake Kane instead of Duncan Kane as Lily's father....hmm....that's another twist to think about. Oh, and you can call me Sub or Michael.

Thanks for the new thread Michael, the first thread looks awsome. And you guys can call me Cyn everyone else does

I'm such a dork! I taped VM last night and I popped it in while I was in bed and I fell asleep and the last part I saw was when Logan was washing the car with Weevil. It was a tape I have used for a couple of years and at 1:00AM I woke up to an old episode of Dawson's Creek lol. I'll have to watch it again tonight.

Thanks Michael, for the new thread, and for using the cajones line. Last night's show was awesome. I think it was my favorite so far, and all it did was make me ask more question...which by the way, I love. I hate it when you can guess everything right off the bat.

Once again I will state that I love Weevil. And I am SO happy that he was in a majority of this episode. I just love his whole don't-*uck-with-me-if-you-touch-me-again-I'll-take-your-hand-off attitude. Gotta love him.

Big props for the writers of this ep, though I figured out pretty early on about the whole step-dad rape thing. And about Veronica *possibly* being Jake Kane's daughter.

Just gotta say I loved this episode.

I also think this ep was one of the best so far. I'm intrigued by the whole Duncan/Veronica half-siblings storyline, though I hope it's not true 'cause I want them together and that would be wrong! I also liked the fact that Veronica's suspicions about the seemingly evil boyfriend were wrong. It's nice to know that she's not always right.

I thought Logan had overheard Weevil talk about Lily in the bathroom and that in order to get revenge he had set up Weevil so he would get expelled. Him confessing let us once again see his human side, which is nice. But he will find out eventually about the Weevil/Lily relationship. I wonder what he'll do when that happens!

BTW, did anyone notice that the missing girl's mom also played Felicity's mom? And the stepdad looked like an actor from General Hospital.

I too think that the whole Duncan/Veronica being half-siblings is a little squicky, but it could answer a lot of questions about Lilly's murder and everything else that's been going on. Maybe Duncan was even the one who raped Veronica...maybe he knew he could have her 'cause they are siblings, but he couldn't control himself. Who knows?

I seriously doubt that Veronica is Duncan's half sister. I don't think UPN or the writers, for that matter, would get that nasty on us. Plus, the show is named after her. She couldn't be anything but a Mars. Definitely not a Kane.

But, given what we've seen so far on the show it seemas like the writers like to give little hints. They like to do some serious foreshadowing. Which is why I think that the big reveal in this episode was Weevil saying that his little sister's name is Lilly.

Veronica goes around mistakenly thinking that she is part Kane when REALLY it was her best friend Lilly who was actually part someone else. I think there is something behind Weevil saying that "it wasn't like that" and then telling Logan that his little sister's name is Lilly. And him getting teary-eyed at her memorial. Now, this could be because they had some sort of secret relationship, but I think that Lilly really loved Logan. It's clear that he really loved her. I don't think that Lilly and Weevil were sleeping together. So, maybe Weevil just loved her like a sister? Or maybe she actually WAS his sister? Then again, maybe they were? I'm forgetting here that Lilly liked to upset her mother. What would be more upsetting than having hot sex with the help's grandson?

Where was Celeste when her darling husband was slummin' it with Lianne? Off having a torrid little love affair with the gardener? Weevil's dad? OR maybe Weevil's mom was a maid in the Kane house and Jake had an affair with her. Lilly was the result?

ETA: I'm also not sure that Duncan did it. I can't say that I'm sure he didn't either, but I'm still not to the point where I think he actually did it. I think he might know something, which is why he had that bizarre dream where Lilly told him to wake up, but I think his antidepressants are drowning it out and keeping it repressed.

I agree that Weevil and Lilly were siblings, though I don't know which one of the Kanes cheated. Maybe Celeste, and that might explain why she had that attitude toward Lilly. Lilly reminded her of her own mistakes or something. But it works as well the other way, I suppose.

At any rate, it will make for more Weevil screen time, and I'm so for that!

Maybe it is all misdirection.

Veronica is still a Mars... But perhaps Lily is Weevil's little sister that he only recently found out he had (or was sworn to secrecy about) because she was given up for adoption by her parents -- whomever that may be -- And the Kane's adopted her and raised her.

I think the fun part of the show is trying to figure out what are the red herrings and what are the genuine clues.

I think Veronica thinking she may be a Kane is a red herring... But I also think that "Duncan must have done it" -- just because he is doped up all the time -- Is one as well. He's starting to come out of it and he hasn't flown off the handle, or reacted in a manner that befits a killer. Even a cold blooded, calculated killer who is trying to hide. I just don't think it is Duncan... At least, not yet.

The only plaussible motive would be that Lily is the product of an affair between either Celeste, or Jake with one of Weevil's parents... Duncan knew (knows) and some reason just snapped and killed her...

But that is thin considering why all of a sudden "now" (a year ago).

It all comes back to what the supposed secret Lily was going to tell Veronica... MAYBE... And that we assume that Jake, Celeste, possibly Keith, Lianne, Duncan and even Weevil were privy to it and that is why they are all interlinked somehow.

That's a big assumption and that may be a red herring as well.

My head is spinning

Didn't really care about the pregnant girl plotline saw the ending a mile away.

I was more interested in the clues that were dropped.

Think Duncan dumped Veronica because he found out that something that made him suspect or was made to think that Veronica might be his half-sister.

When the father was talking about how a man would have to love a woman to raise a child that wasn't his I thought it was a red herring referrring to his marriage.

But if it was really about Jake/Celeste Kane I didn't get the impression that they loved each other that much.

I thought that maybe Lilly/Veronica were twins but that wouldn't work b/c I think Veronica is a Mars.

How far apart are Duncan/Lilly in age? Are they twins? If they are twins how could Lilly be Weevil's sister but not Duncan.

There was a relationship btwn Lilly/Weevil just not sure what it was?

I seriously thought when Weevill/guy were talking in the bathroom about Lilly that Logan was going to pop out of the shower stall.

I was thinking that maybe Duncan found out something flipped out and in the end Lilly was dead. But I hopehe didn't kill her because I want Duncan/Veronica together. If not Veronica/Logan.

Next question who is threatening the mother? Lianne doesn't seem afraid of Jake unless Jake is the one pressuring her to protect Duncan.

Questions, Questions, Questions every week there seem to be more.
