Looks like to keep Jack on the show, their trick is to give us very little about his past so they can tackle it in future seasons.

Cause technically the character is dead and they can write off Milo on the show but he's been recognized and nominated for this role so he'll be around for as long as the show is still on-air.

^^ I like that too because in the wedding finale we got a 'future take' of what could have been of Jack and Rebecca. I would love to see more 'future' possibilities.
