Friends Season 4 - Because monica and chandler had slept together. It was one my biggest 'wtf?' moments ever. I was in total shock and they had to throw in Ross saying Rachel's name. I loved when the priest went 'Shall I go on?'

Friends Season 5 - I felt like I'd been sucker punched when Ross and Rachel came running out, exclaiming they'd gotten married. Normally alcohol and Vegas would equal wedding for me, but I did not see that one coming

Friends Season 7 - come on, the way the camera zoomed into Rachel's face and she took a deep breath? I couldn't believe we'd have to wait for so long to find out what'd happen next

Charmed Season 3 - omigod. That was the best episode they ever had. Why didn't the show stay that way? Because... wow. Just, their bodies lying on the ground and the way the door closed and all the glass shattered and you're left thinking 'omigod. Everyone's dead?!'

Lost Season 2 - Just the bit with those guys up in the mountain and Penny answering the phone. That bit was good

Gilmore Girls Season 2 - Because... because... she kissed Jess and then we had to wait for all of forever to find out what happened next.

I'm sure there's many more but thats all I can think of right now.

On the top of my head...

Dawson's Creek S3 Finale - True Love: I remember how huge the DJ/PJ debate was back then and how spoilers of all kinds were leaking everywhere. After an amazing PJ build-up in S3, it was just enough to make me cry when PJ sailed off together. Then, we had the whole summer to speculate.

90210 S3 Finale - Commencement Exercises: The gang finally graduates. The last scene was touching and showed us how great their friendships had gotten at that point.

Homefront S2 Finale: Am I the only one here who watched/loved this show? Hee. This was also the series finale. I wanted more but I was content with the fact that Jeff/Ginger finally get married.

FRIENDS S4 Finale: Ross saying Rachel's name? It sounded like heaven to me.

In no particular order:

BTVS S5: That whole season was awesome but the ending was so unimaginable because I honestly thought it would be the end of the show. Amazing.
Alias S2: "You've been missing for two years." Crazy.
Dawson's Creek S3: Fave season of DC and what better way to end it than having Joey and Pacey sailing off into the sunset?
Grey's Anatomy S2: Katherine Heigl and Sandra Oh - enough said. Plus the song "Chasing Cars" killed it for me.
Friends S4: When he said 'Rachel' - I couldn't believe it.
Friends S5: Would've never expected Rachel and Ross to tie the knot - great cliffhanger.
Gilmore Girls S2: Best cliffhanger with the Rory/Jess kiss at the wedding.
Gilmore Girls S4: Opened a whole door of possibilities for Luke and Lorelai - LOVED it!
Felicity S1: Everyone wanted to know who she picked - Ben or Noel?
Grey's Anatomy S1: "And you must be the woman who's been screwing my husband?" - What more can be said about this episode?

Instead of list our favorite finales...I wonder, by seeing your choices, what do you think makes for a good "season finale"?

My new list.

1.Grey's Anatomy-Season 1
2.One Tree Hill-Season 1
3.One Tree Hill-Season 2
4.One Tree Hill-Season 3
5.Gilmore Girls-Season 4
6.Gilmore Girls-Season 5
7.7th Heaven-Season 2
8.7th Heaven-Season 10
9.Charmed-Season 4
10.Charmed-Season 7

I think what makes a good season finale is a secret finally revealed or if there's a like a new character to introduce them in a finale(for example of a finale introduction of a new character-Grey's Anatomy season 1).

One tree hill season 3 finale, that was really a good one: you never knew WHAT was gonna happen to Nathan, Cooper and Rachel. And then you had Lucas and Brooke, you didn't really know what was gonna happen to them, because of stupid Peyton.

Grey's Anatomy Season 2, that was sooooooo sad. I mean, everybody loves Izzie. Everybody loved Danny. And we all KNEW that Izzie loved Danny too. I was sooooo sad. And then Izzie quit the job, was she gonna get back? Very... dramatic.

The OC s3 MARISSA DIED? Wtf? Hellooooooo. That sucked. </3

and some more, like GTST season 17 finale (from the Netherlands) and Heroes season 1 finale.

great question .... for me, a great season finale is one that has a bit of a cliffhanger at least, to leave me really wanting to squeee all summer and wonder what happened ... but it's also one that is a natural progressional cliffhanger and not a cop-out or a drastic change just for ratings.

ITA! I think it has to have a cliffhanger to leave us in suspense...but, it has to be natural and built up. Also, I feel with some shows a bit of closure is needed, since it seems TV seasons no feel like books. In that, there has to be a progression but then a new journey begins...

Seriously?! I don't agree with either of these. Season 2 was such a crappy season and then after everything, Haley just shows up on the doorstep. Such a letdown. Season 3's finale episode was good, but it could have been the series finale and if the show was never picked up, that's how the series was gonna end. That forms a cloud over everything IMHO.

The best season finale ever was Buffy's Season 2 finale, "Becoming, Part 2". Just freaking awesome.

I don't think a finale has to have a cliffhanger to be considered great. It should set up the next year's storylines enough for the viewer to wonder and eagerly await the new season. That's just my opinion. I don't like it when shows go for the shocking moment just to have a cliffhanger.

Not in any order just as they come to me:

1. Friends season four - it has stood the test of time and still captures my interest even after knowing how it turns out

2. Gilmore Girls season four - the most discussed episode of the series; hated the Rory/Dean stuff, but I was absolutely antsy waiting fo the fifth season premiere.

3. Alias season two - it drove me nuts, but I guess that was the goal.

4. Everwood season one - brilliant writing from start to finish; a beautiful piece of closure to an amazing first season

5. E.R. season one - Carol's almost wedding gets to me every time.

6. Friday Night Lights season one - some of the best writing ever on television; a masterpiece in every area

These are my favorite
The X-Files Anasazi Season 2-This was the episode that initially got me hooked on the show so I'm biased about it really. I just couldn't believe they would end the season with Mulder possibly being dead.
Felicity Felicity was Here Season 1-Probably one of the best episodes of the show.
The Office (UK) Christmas Specia- I tell you I rewound the Dawn/Tim ending like 10 times.
The Office (US) Casino Night Season 2-Aww, memories of when I was an adament Jim/Pam shipper. Really great cliffhanger ending.
King of the Hill Returning Japanese Season 6- One of my favorite episodes of one of my favorite animated series. Can't believe it's been on for 11+ years.
The Larry Sanders Show Flip Season 6-One of my favorite shows from the 90's and I don't think the finale dissapointed.
Arrested Develpment Development Arrested Season 3-Not my favorite episode but since it's the last episode of my all time favorite comedy series I have to add it to the list.
Frasier Something Borrowed, Someone Blue Season 7-One of my favorite Frasier episodes, probably seen it more than any other.
Everybody Loves Raymond - The Finale-I know alot of people didn't like the ending but I think it rang true to life with them around the kitchen table.
Californication The Last Waltz Season 1-God so much awesome was packed into this episode. From the greatness of Marcy to Hank getting into a fight over Tampons. The ending is debated as being the end of the show and I've read some comments about it being a dream sequence but it doesn't change the fact that it made me smile from ear to ear.
