It's gotta be frustrating for the writers. I mean...you're right L....the actors make thousands of dollars...sometimes millions of dollars per episode/season and get all the glory while the writers probably work longer hours and don't really get much to say for it. I mean...I really side with them...the studios need to pay up or they won't have anything to produce.

i was reading ONTD and someone posted about jon stewart paying his writers and the colbert report writers for two weeks, which i found to be very kind... but idk, i guess if we pulled in the actors and blah blah it would just make things more complicated... this strike is going to effect EVERYONE though but like you, I side with the writers... especially when they are such an intricate part of TV for christ's sake

Especially since SAG's contract is up in the summer and they're thinking about striking too. Hollywood is such a mess right now.

If the strike only lasts a month or 6 weeks...it won't delay things MUCH. They'll have to cut down the number of episodes...but I really don't think it's going to go on that long. I might be eating my words...but I just don't think so.

You're optimistic. I'm much more pessimistic. But, I hope you'e right.

It's just a sad situation all around.

Thanks for the updates.

I'm not really being optimistic...just realistic. I can't see it dragging on through the Christmas holidays. One side will eventually cave. I just hope the writers get what they want.

Isn't there a conflict of interest with Tina Fey since she's both an actress and writer? These writers and studios are really going to make their fans mad. The writers may not get as much money as the actors but hey that's how the business is. People watch tv shows and movies because of the actors and actresses not because of the writers. Stars make the big bucks because they sell the show.

Well, I heard that there's some encouragement for members of the SAG to support the WGA.

Yeah, I've only heard of encouragement from the SAG for the writers. I can't see this going on for a long time, I think the producers will cave soon....

I hope so.

I don't know.............some are saying this strike could go longer than the 22 week one.

And yeah............there are some conflicts on many shows...........I know alot of the actors on the Office are also writers.

The writers aren't trying to get as much money as the actors so it's unfair to say that. I think the writers should be getting paid for this new media.

I definitely think the writers should be getting paid for new media. It's only fair...

I really can't see this going on for longer than 22 weeks. That would be really wild.

I just got myself all caught up with the news. Damn, 2 weeks would be so tragic. Thank God for DVD sets I haven't watched (FNL, House, Bones, etc.) but I heard this will push FX's Dirt back...and alot of returning summer shows like Entourage. Damn.

Tina Fey was on Channel 7 news and she looked so torn. It was like...she had to support the strike, but 30 Rock isn't a hit. It needs exposure. So, she's taking a risk by cutting the season short. Why can't that show get an audience?

“A lot of the public probably feels like we are brats,” said Sarah Durken, a writer for children’s programs. “We are not hospital workers and firefighters, we know that — the world is going to keep turning. But I think everyone understands that the issue of corporate greed versus the needs of workers and their families.”

I can barely switch on a computer, but we all know what is at stake here, said Amy Sherman-Palladino, a writer who is working on a “Jezebel James,” her new Fox series with Parker Posey, and was the co-creator of “Gilmore Girls.” “We are taking a stand for the next 20 years, and what we do now is going to define the new business model going forward.”

Just then, the chant switched to “No money, no funny,” a reminder that many of the people on the picket line on New York make their living writing for the various talk/comedy shows.

Ms. Sherman-Palladino continued, “I was telling my husband” — Daniel Pallidino, her writing partner on the new Fox show and on “Gilmore Girls,” and a fellow picketer — “that we need some new and better chants, but he reminded me: ‘No writing. None.’ “
Quote:
Jonathan Bines, a writer for the “The Jimmy Kimmel Show,” felt that the producer’s unwillingness to compensate for digital use of their work defied logic.

“I’m surprised we are out here.” Mr. Bines said. “I thought the producers would come in with some ridiculously low-ball offer on a percentage of new media and that we’d take it and it would be over. But they have offered us nothing.”
Quote:
At either end of the picket line in Manhattan, newly underemployed writers handed out leaflets that said: “We are the Writer’s Guild. We write your favorite sitcoms, dramas, late night shows, soap operas, movies and more. We work hard to bring you our best in entertainment.”

There is a video on the NYTimes homepage, too.

Thanks for the quotes!

Man, I hope this is resolved sooner rather than later.
