Thanks for topping this.

I was really hoping it wouldn't come to this.

I guess a federal mediator was brought in at the last minute and they're going to try to avert the strike on Sunday...but we'll see.

Check out Deadline Hollywood Daily for the latest.

This is pathetic in my opinion. These writers have no right to strike. If it weren't for us viewers, they would have no jobs. They're just being greedy and selfish.

Jon Stewart's take on the strike is up on YouTube. It's pretty funny.

At least it's there now. I thought the lawyers got all clips of him pulled off YouTube? ???

Actually, I think you're mad at the wrong people. It's the studios who refuse to pay the writers the money they deserve for "new media". It has nothing to do with the viewers. We're just caught in the crossfire of their war.

I agree with Susan, they deserve the compensation for sales... it is pathetic how little royalties they make. I think we should be supporting them... rather then saying they wouldn't have jobs if it weren't for us, we should be saying we wouldn't have these TV shows if it weren't for them.

Here is a made up Feb schedual from access hollywood here

Do no international programs air on any networks? Or, could there be the possibility if the strike does last that they could buy some international programs?

it's the writers who want to settle this as quickly as possible so if we should be mad at anyone its the "big wigs" who won't negotiate

i have a feeling it will last longer than expected... its four fcking cents for god's sake

I totally agree, I think it's awful that writers aren't getting the royalties they deserve, I mean without them, there isn't any TV shows.. And where would we all be?!
LOL @ that schedule.

I do agree about their strike, but it's a pity it has come to this

Here's another article from today's New York Times.

Excerpt:

Quote:
Those so-called showrunners, the thousand or so people who share both writing and managerial duties on television shows, have already been squeezed by conflicting demands from guild leaders and company employers. The guilds have strongly urged them not to cross picket lines to perform their managerial duties. But producers have pointed out that individual employment contracts require writer-producers to report for work, even if they withhold their writing services.

Deadline Hollywood Daily says:

Quote:
SUNDAY AT 4 PM: The WGA just sent out an email stating that today's federal mediator-ordered talks failed and told its membership that Monday's 12:01 am strike is on as planned.
eta: That update disappeared soon after it was posted.

Thanks for the update! I guess we're really striking.

Hopefully, it won't last too long.

ETA:

Here's a new article from Reuters about the strike.

ETA #2: From Deadline Hollywood Daily:
Quote:
SUNDAY AT 5 PM: I've just confirmed the federal mediator-ordered talks are still going on.
