I'm not as invested in Darvey getting together as others are, but I really don't think Louis and Sheila are sympathetic enough to be the show's core romance.

Pretty much sums up my take on it. There’s no way S/L can pull off being the show’s core romance. No way. I honestly cannot believe that affair didn’t cause their popularity to take a hit either.

I do want Darvey together, but I wouldn’t have minded putting it off under other circumstances, but the way he wrote this season was a real mistake if he wants to leave them in limb for an extended period. The Paula drama seemed like a start, but now it just seems like they’re going in circles, rather then forward. He seems to be afraid of moving them forward. Every time it looks like progress is being made, he seems to pull back from committing to anything. It’s a bad idea imo. And it is Season 8. This is not rushed at all.

You’d think he thinks S/L has been the couple a big portion of the audience has been dying to see get together for years.

That whole section of his interview really turned me off to next season. Like I said- i’m curious, but nothing has me truly excited. I kinda wonder what he was thinking saying all that honestly.

Hopefully, AK will show more clarity on the subject as season 8 approaches but that interview worries me a little.

My reach on social media isn't far, I admit, but my Suitor friends on Twitter are expressing a mixed bag of opinions-, one of which is that the wedding was too short, too rushed, and didn't truly celebrate Mike and Rachel's 7-year run on the show. For me, it was a missed opportunity to bring back characters whose lives Mike has touched over the years--Harold, Jimmy, Benjamin, Katrina, Kevin, Gretchen could've all been shown in cameos as wedding guests. Suits loves to bring back characters, so why they didn't for Mike's wedding is a mystery.

I was honestly sorry I read the interview. I just shook my head reading it. It made no sense to me.

I don’t really know anyone who watches, but there were a lot of missed opportunities in the last 2 episodes. Starting with the ludicrous amount of time on the clinic stuff that absolutely should have gone to Mike/Rachel with core characters or past ones. And may have also allowed more time for the wedding. It felt slapped together.

It was probably a mistake to include Jessica’s pilot in a finale episode, of all times, since that has no bearing on the Suits world and doesn’t generate any kind of interest for next season.

The only story that felt like it belonged was the firm fight because it brought over Robert, setting up next season. Which was the only surprise of the whole 2 hours.

Oh- but I did like Jessica saying Harvey was the closest thing to family Mike had. True.

I agree that the backdoor pilot was a mistake, maybe a network decision more than AK's, made for budgetary reasons. Still, inserting the backdoor pilot into a different episode would've been far preferable than using a finale as important as this one.

Robert coming over to Specter Litt is intriguing, and I think that idea has been floating around since Robert made the offer to Jessica back in season 6 that their firms merge. Katrina worked for Robert's firm too, and spoke highly of Robert to Rachel, so her loyalties might be torn in a power struggle.

TFTNT Alexa!

I still haven't seen the finale but I'll get around to it this weekend.

Looks like the YT clip is region blocked for me.

If anyone follows the ratings:

Wednesday cable ratings: NBA playoffs stay on top, ‘Krypton’ falls – TV By The Numbers by zap2it.com

Suits is the top-rated scripted cable show for the night, everything above it being sports, news/talk, or unscripted (reality) programming. Many viewers time shift (I read somewhere that Suits was one of the most time shifted programs on TV, nearly double the number that watch live).

Judging from that s8 teaser video, Samantha may already know Alex (maybe a play on the fact that KH and DH worked together on Doubt). Apparently, she's the mirror image of Harvey...I always thought Scottie was the mirror image of Harvey, so I'm not sure what to think about seeing a replication of that (minus the romantic component, because I doubt the story will explore that, Donna or no Donna, in season 8).

Thanks for sharing the video!

I want to bring this interview over here too:

https://www.etonline.com/meghan-mark...clusive-101008

Gabriel's attitude toward Harvey and Donna getting together has always been ambivalent, so that hasn't really changed. But it is nice to see his reflection on PJA's departure, which has been completely overshadowed in the media by MM's exit. That's too be expected, considering the reality of why she's leaving, but I'm glad ET recognized the enormity of Patrick/Mike leaving Suits.

I read reviews from TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly, each of which had slightly different takes on the finale. TV Guide generally liked it, but pointed to Mike and Harvey's good-bye scene as the emotional highlight; Entertainment Weekly, a longtime staunch supporter of the show, was more critical, rightly pointing out that this finale didn't focus enough on Harvey/Mike, the relationship that basically made Suits the success that it is.

Finally, here is a rare think-piece on Suits from Vanity Fair:

I've finally seen both eps.

I'm glad that it wasn't very heavy on the drama but it all felt a bit rushed to me. Like the decision of both Mike & Rachel to move to Seattle is set in stone which I feel like they could've done probably next season (or earlier this season) but Meghan's exit has a timeline so yeah. I'm really sad for the Mike & Harvey. Their last scene was a bit emotional and Harvey (or heck maybe Gabriel) looked like he was gonna cry. I'm very okay with how Mike & Rachel left the show. They do deserve to start over some place else. Mostly I will really miss the Mike & Harvey banter. The show won't be the same but I'm still looking forward to next season.

Great to see a lot of focus on Jessica in that ep but it was also obvious that they were setting up the spinoff in that ep. And Darvey, they're both in a good place now. I just hope it doesn't get to be another Harvey gets together with someone and Donna gets together with someone else. Can they just both be single for a while? It was also great to see Scottie. I like her presence and her no BS attitude to Harvey and also when she knew that Donna was the reason for Harvey's recent break-up because she's been there, done that.

Thanks for the YT clips, those work for me. LOL, I just realized, there's gonna be ANOTHER Alex on the show. Katherine has no escape.

715 was decent…

I liked the conversation between Harvey and Donna at the start of the episode, it was nice to see them on friendly terms again. I don’t think their feelings are gone though, and I think the Darvey plot will be revisited later.

It was cool to see Scottie again. Even she realizes that Harvey has feelings for Donna. I love that they put that in there because if not for that scene I would think they were going to drop Darvey, but I dont think they will… I will say though, I didnt really see her point? She had like 2 scenes, it just felt weird to me.

As much as I like Mike and Rachel I am not that sad to see them go in some capacity because I think maybe storylines will feel more cohesive? IDK, I guess we will see.

I really cant tolerate how much the show uses the word “Goddamn”… It just feels so out of place. Damn, sure, but who says Goddamn? It just feels so dumb and scripted to me.

716 didn’t really feel like a finale to me, at least not in regards to it being Mike and Rachel’s last episode. in general I found the episode sort of blah. It focused way too much on Jessica imo. Was this a backdoor pilot? They could have done it earlier in the season imo. I did like the blonde girl that Jessica was going against though.

I did like watching Mike and Rachel work together. But they were barely in the episode and it was the last one for them, so that was disappointing. It felt like they tacked on scenes at the end too?

The last Rachel/Donna scene was really sweet though. I wanted a Rachel/Louis goodbye though. And maybe even a Louis/Mike one...

Loved Donna putting together the wedding and making sure that Harvey was there. I ADORED THAT THE MIKE SPEECH ABOUT WANTING TO WALK DOWN THE AISLE WITH HER PLAYED OVER DARVEY WALKING TOGETHER FDFSFDSSAGSAGSS. And their little look to each other after M/R said I do?!?!?! Foreshadowing much? Also the Harvey/Donna dance was adorable. <3

Mike and Harvey talking about him being best man was so adorable. I am going to miss those two a lot but I think Patrick will be back. The Mike/Harvey goodbye scene at the wedding was sad and I feel like Harvey accepted it too quickly but this is tv so its expected. The hug was really sweet.

The wedding felt a bit quick but it was still nice to see. Funny too because Meghan is getting married in real life soon haha. Also this is totally not important but I felt like Rachel could have had prettier hair for her wedding? lol. Also, I was as bit surprised to see it just end there though? I mean, I realize that M/R already confirmed they were going to leave and leave quickly but IDK, I expected something different I guess? But it was a decent end for them, having it finish at their wedding I suppose…

Cant wait for next season and how different its going to be. I am glad KH is joining the cast and Samantha looks cool to me. I just hope they dont try to push a Samantha/Harvey romance and instead make them closer to like, the Harvey/Jessica relationship.

I think Harvey and Donna will continue to question their feelings for each other in s8, although I"m less confident the relationship will move forward quickly, judging from AK's post-show comments. ETA: I wonder if AK has shifted his thinking on Darvey because of the possibility of Suits continuing beyond season 9. At one time, the thought was season 8 or 9 would be the last, but with new characters being introduced and recurring characters being given more focus, the potential is there for Suits to continue indefinitely and he doesn't want to rule out any story possibilities. I don't know, just thinking aloud.

Quote:

Although Mike wasn't given an explicit goodbye scene with Louis or Donna, their scenes were weighted with meaning, which hasn't happened in a Mike/Louis scene since season 5, and maybe never in a Donna/Mike scene. So in that way, I was satisfied.

I had expected a good-bye scene between Rachel and Louis though--they were closer friends than Mike and Louis. Rachel and Donna's scene was lovely, of course, but the opportunity for one last girls night out was missed because there wasn't time for it. "Harriett" Specter and "Michelle" Ross deserved a bachelorette party.

The Harvey/Mike banter scene was adorable (and improvised, per the EW article), and their goodbye scene was just... Harvey knew he had to accept Mike's decision, just like he had to accept Jessica's decision to leave at the end of 6A, but he still struggled with her absence and taking over her position. Mike's absence will definitely be felt by Harvey in 8A...but I think he'll be back too, not as a regular but occasionally when the story calls for it.

It may have seemed like they were barely in the episode because so much time was dedicated to the spin-off, but Mike had more scenes than anyone except Harvey. Still, I would've preferred more wedding prep and less time spend at the clinic (and the spin-off should've either had a standalone pilot or inserted into 715.

Yes, this was a backdoor pilot for the spin-off, and a mistake trying to insert into such an important finale. So much time was taken away from what could've been a true celebration of seven seasons, not just of Mike and Rachel, but of the original six characters and how far they've come. No matter what Suits goes on to be, it's the end of the show's defining era and an opportunity to recognize that was lost.

Not sure what you mean. Suits is an ensemble show, which means different story arcs are being told concurrently. That's just how ensemble shows work, and with new characters being brought in and other characters being bumped up to regular, that type of storytelling won't change. If anything, it might get more complicated--Samantha, Alex, Katrina all need further development, on top on Louis/Sheila, Harvey/Donna, and whatever role Robert is going to play. That's a lot going on at once.

The production of the wedding was careful and beautiful, but it wasn't long enough, Too much was jammed into the final hour, and the wedding was simply given the leftover minutes. That was disappointing.

Re: Goddamn. That horse left the barn ages ago. AK worked as an investment banker before working in television, where he said people used that word constantly, so he just incorporated it into the Suits world. But that particular swear word is also generational whereas kids today favor the "f" word (which characters on Suits have been using more frequently lately, even though it's censored).

I mean, we wont have the clinic and engagement stuff with them to worry about. The focus will be mostly on Harvey and the new character, Samantha. We usually always see Louis and Katrina at the firm alone. That's what I mean. I don't think we need to see a lot of characters get more focus, I'm fine with some of them staying in the background.

I never cared for Mikes storylines most of the time tbh.

Im fine with Goddamn being used once in a while, but 5 times per episode is too much.

I'm fine with the show going on until S10 but beyond that...

Oh dear, please no. I actually want a Samantha & Louis dynamic. But I will need more clips to see how this character will be. I don't want her to be a Donna 2.0 or a Jessica 2.0 or a Rachel 2.0.

I think this was why I kind of didn't feel as emotional as I should've been although I felt really sad at that very last Harvey & Mike scene. So much of that ep was dedicated to Jessica and while I absolutely love her, I was expecting this ep to focus more on Mike & Rachel. It just felt like everything was on fast forward with the job offer, the wedding, etc. which they could've done at the very start of this season. When 7B came back, there wasn't much of Rachel either like she was demoted to a recurring character.

Rachel appeared in every episode, so she wasn't demoted to recurring, but I think accommodations were made for MM's personal schedule--she was flying back and forth to London on a regular basis during the filming of 7B and may have requested more time off.

Many on social media have noticed that the back-door pilot took time away from the wedding, that the episode tried to do too much and there wasn't enough time devoted to the fact that Mike and Rachel were marrying, then leaving. (Jessica's decision to leave was also last-minute.)

There were some beautiful moments in the wedding, but the actual scenes lasted all of five minutes. That was disappointing.

Samantha will probably be interacting with everyone at the firm, but since Harvey is managing partner she will definitely be going head-to-head with him--from everything I've read, she's the female version of Harvey, maybe a Scottie 2.0. Jessica was Harvey's boss, mentor and, at times, a mother-figure--I really doubt Samantha's relationship with Harvey will be anything like that.
