To change it would not be honoring Terry's story and work. Changes are fine, but not a big change like this. This would changing the entire character ARC of Amberle and also the stories to come.

In terms Eretria. I adore her. I have found her to be such an interesting and complex character. Maybe my favourite character.

While her personality was a little different in the book, I found I enjoyed both versions of her.

But in terms of the story; This is Amberle's journey. She was chosen. She was tested and passed. Given the seed, she has had the visions for years. Add all these things and the natural thing is for her to take it upon herself to heal the world. She blamed herself anyway and felt it was her fault, so sacrificing herself would be her knowing this is what is meant to happen.

Eretria rubbed me the wrong way in the beginning. She just seemed so predictable and I could always tell how it would wind up. I don't know why,I just like Amberley best. Maybe if I read the book,I'd feel differently about Eritrea. I think Terry Brooks is a lot more vocal and honest. GRRM let the tv show muck up his series.

Yeah, she may have been like that in the beginning, but they have been exploring her character.

She wasn't in the book until half way. She fell in love with Wil pretty quickly and followed him everywhere But she was still strong character.
She was always sure she and Wil belonged together, even if he didn't realize it until the end.

The last line of the book was something like " It's reasurring to see, you have come to your senses at last."

Yeah, I have read some interviews by Terry and he seems honest. Not only about the adaptation, which he approves of, but to his fans about the series.

IGN: So how have you guys conceived it going forward, if there's a Season 2 and so forth? The book is fairly standalone, and then the sequels jump generations and go to different time periods. So do you imagine that The Shannara Chronicles will just be Elfstone spinning off into its own, or will we get to see Shea and some of the later characters as well?

Brooks: What do you mean "if"? [Laughs]

IGN: Listen, it goes both ways! Because if I say "when," you'll go "when"? I'm trying to be very politically correct. [Laughs]

Brooks: Well, I'll tell you what. MTV's take at this point, I think, is very strongly that we keep the actors that we have -- at least the ones that are still alive. [Laughs] And that we go forward with those actors. I think there will be some experimentation. I know they want to use storylines and so forth, but I don't know that anybody's really decided yet how close they'll stick to it book by book by book. They may not do that. I think there'll be a tendency to try to keep one storyline intact as we go for each season and conclude it at the end. I think they'll introduce new characters.

But the thing people have probably forgotten here is that, even if we keep -- which we will, I think -- Wil, Eretria and Allanon, that there's a gap of time between Elfstones and Wishsong, for example, where nobody knows what happened. And I did that on purpose because I wanted to be able to go back and write in those gaps. Well, we're going to film in those gaps. So lots of things can happen there, in that time period, that don't necessarily impact what happens in book three. I think they're going to take advantage of that. I know they're going to introduce new characters. We've already talked about it. I think they're going to be innovative again in the way in which they approach it. So I'm looking forward to it myself. I don't know yet what they're going to do, and I don't want them to tell me. I want them to conceive of it first, put it down, and then we'll talk about if there are any problems with it. But it's kind of exciting to reimagine the story, I think.
