SEASON 1 (2017)

1.01 "The Bad Beginning, part one" + 1.02 "The Bad Beginning, part two"
When a mysterious fire destroys their home and kills their parents, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire are sent to live with their distant relative Count Olaf, who forces them into servitude.
One night, the siblings prepare puttanesca for Olaf's theatre troupe only for him to demand roast beef upon arriving home. The children then state that they were never asked to prepare roast beef,
angering Olaf and prompting him to slap Klaus across the face when he protests about the sleeping arrangements. Meanwhile, a mother and father are held against their will by a mysterious captor.

1.03 "The Reptile Room, part one" + 1.04 "The Reptile Room, part two"
The Baudelaires are sent to live with their herpetologist uncle Monty Montgomery, who has recently come across a reptile he calls the "Incredibly Deadly Viper".
While attempting to learn more about Montgomery, Klaus discovers that the hedge maze in Montgomery's garden is the exact same shape as the tattoo on Olaf's ankle.
Olaf poses as Montgomery's new assistant Stefano and attempts to kidnap the Baudelaires, but Montgomery inadvertently thwarts the scheme after receiving an encrypted message instructing him to take the Baudelaires to Peru.
Believing "Stefano" to be a spy sent to steal his research, Montgomery fires him.

1.05 "The Wide Window, part one" + 1.06 "The Wide Window, part two"
Mr. Poe takes the Baudelaires to live with their Aunt Josephine, an irrationally afraid woman who lives in a dilapidated house overlooking Lake Lachrymose and refuses to speak about their parents. As Josephine doesn't answer their questions on the spyglasses, they pursue answers themselves around her house, and discover their parents were members of a secret organization, with the spyglasses being used as useful devices - they are also shocked to find out that Josephine was once fierce and formidible, but lapsed into fear after the death of her husband.

1.07 "The Miserable Mill, part one" + 1.08 "The Miserable Mill, part two"
Upon arriving at the Lucky Smells Lumber Mill, the Baudelaires are forced to work by the owner Sir, who blames their parents for starting a fire that destroyed the entire town. While investigating the workers' unnaturally happy behavior, Klaus breaks his glasses and visits optometrist Georgina Orwell, who puts him into a hypnotic trance. Later that day, the siblings learn that two visitors are waiting to see them. Believing that their parents are still alive, the three are shocked to instead find Orwell and her receptionist "Shirley St. Ives", who is a poorly-disguised Olaf.

Well there have been reports of them shooting in a couple months or something, but no official word for confirmation... It's confusing half the time

I think it's the repetitive nature of the storylines. We know that Count Olaf was gonna disguise himself again, we know that Mr. Poe wasn't going to recognize him, we know that the Baudelaire orphans will have to prove to Mr. Poe that Count Olaf is in disguise (and that they have to be whisked off to another guardian again). I did like how the show diverted a bit from the books, especially with the Quagmires.

Don't know how it comes off to someone who is going into this blind for sure

And the first four books, covered in this season, are all fairly straightforward on the format, it's after that things start turning around when the mystery gets heightened

Guess it's not for everyone

I actually preferred the show more than the books. It has a lot to do with the way they adapted it to TV plus the actors.

I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to S2 which I'm sure we'll get. Have you read the books? You should definitely watch it, only 8 eps.
