Rectify {Sundance} #1 - "Am I a bad person?"
RECTIFY "Sundance Channel's first wholly owned scripted series stars Aden Young as Daniel Holden, who spends nearly 20 years on death row for the rape and murder of a teenage girl, before new DNA evidence nullifies his conviction. He returns home, but he's far from welcomed. He's an outsider now in a town that remains divided by his alleged crime, and contributing to his uncertain future is the man who prosecuted him -- riding that notoriety to become a state senator -- is plotting to reopen the case. As he struggles to adapt, Daniel is comforted by support from his younger sister, Amantha, who has always believed in his innocence and has worked her entire adult life to secure his release. Not so for Ted Jr., Daniel's stepbrother with whom he has no relationship. Insecure and manipulative, Ted is skeptical of Daniel's motives and will do anything to protect his family." http://cdn.denofgeek.us/sites/denofg...tify_lg_0.jpeg -*- http://iheardin.com/wp-content/uploa...ify-family.jpg -*- Series Cast: Aden Young ... Because it's amazing. And because you have never seen onscreen chemistry until you've seen Daniel and Tawney together. And because it deserves attention. |
amantha/jon>daniel/tawney!! i'm sick of amantha's crap though. she's so... miserable. it's like, NO, you don't have to move and take a sht job that pays sht. surprisingly though, i found ted jr's storyline during season two far more interesting than the bunch of them. i wasn't expecting that because i don't really like clayne. ever since he tried to break up michael and maria on roswell...

The actor playing Ted Jr really does an excellent job, though. He just can't really measure up to Aden, who's practically a perfect fit for the role.
I don't know, I guess... I mean, sure, Amantha/Jon are cute...? However compared to the magic of Daniel and Tawney's interaction I think they fall really short. I've really never seen a couple with more screen chemistry than those two, my three favorite pairings right now are them, S/G on Nashville and S/C on TVD. I guess I just have a thing for blondes?... I'm really looking forward to the next season. |
daniel's the only character i actually dislike. i think he's boring and annoying and the writers totally missed the mark by revolving season two around his venture out into the supposed real world. talk about lackluster!

We seem to have exactly opposite views. For me Daniel sells the show completely. He's great at conveying feelings with few words. What has to be understood is how badly damaged he really is from the incarceration.
They do an excellent job of portraying the bewilderment in being released - actually being able to just go wherever you want and not having a locked door in front of you. From personal experience, I can say they do this almost flawlessly. |
Great show  Happy to see a thread here. I still need to see most of S2.

You have a lot of awesomeness in store for you ;)

Wow! Didn't even know there was a Rectify thread on this forum. This is one of my favorite shows. So freaking underrated though. I hope this year they can get some awards love so more folks will tune in to this wonderful show. It's one of the best, if not the best on TV right now.

Looks like critics are FINALLY showing Rectify some much deserved love:
10 Best TV Shows of 2014 (Plus 2 Bonus Picks) | Photo 9 of 11 | EW.com The Top 10 TV Shows Of 2014 Fingers crossed for some nominations for the show come Awards season. I think that would bring some attention to the show and guarantee us more seasons. |
From what I've heard the third season will probably go back to only 6 episodes, or 8. I don't think that's out of financial consideration, though. It seems like the producer of the show has pretty good sway with the company.
Rectify really is one of the best shows on television but it's also very esoteric, slow pacing, odd narrating technique. That just makes it better in my book but I can see people used to fluff having trouble to relate. It's almost like an "art film" type of series. |
Yep and that's why I have a hard time recommending to to a lot of my friends. I have a feeling they would find it very slow paced. This show is not for everyone, but for me, I ABSOLUTELY love it.
It reminds me a lot of Friday Night Lights actually like that reviewer mentioned. If you liked that show, you will like Rectify. |
