Despite the intense and the horror aspect of the case. It almost is a relief to him to deal with it as opposed to his family business. To get in the mid of the killer, but not in the way his father did, by killing. He does good with it.
He really does have issues. I am glad they show that his mother does care, and does see that he really seen some horrors.
But he can't handle doing nothing. He has to keep busy.
