At least pickup the first novel, it really sets the stage nicely and is not to bad in length. They get increasingly larger and make Harry Potter look like 'light reading'

The official Premiere is next Saturday and episode 2 is a week -1/2 away. Plenty of time to finish book 1

There's a thread for Outlander?!?! Yes!!!

I can not tell you how flipping excited I was when I learned they were turning my favorite book into a tv series, and after seeing the premiere, they did not disappoint! I've already lost count of how many times I've watched it. .

Everything from the casting to cinematography. They even made me like Frank, who has always been a bit boring to me!

Favorite scene: Jamie coming after Claire and their argument that follows. It's classic Jamie and Claire. She's terribly stubborn, and he can't get enough of it! CB and SH's chemistry is just off the charts. They couldn't have chosen a better Jamie and Claire. And let's just be real here, even covered in blood, sweat and dirt, SH was smokin' hot! I'd have let him take me anywhere. .

I can not wait to see more!

Oh my I just finished the first GOT book, which was pretty big and took me some time because I only read it on my commute. It appears those books keep getting bigger and bigger too! So we'll see how it takes me finish those. But I'm definitely super intrigued by the Outlander series.

I'm myself is a big and usually fast reader. Depending on the book it usually takes 1-3 days. I started these books last year and I just recently finished book 4. The first book took me 5 days to read. The rest about 1 1/2-2 weeks.

So they would probably take me like a month each. Maybe more.

You should definitely try reading it. I've never read GOT, but from what I understand is that Outlander is a lot easier of a read! Yes it's long, but it grips you from the beginning and never let's go. Read it. You won't put it down.

I agree, it grips you in!. You'll find yourself making time to read because you're going to want to know "what happens next!" Besides it's summer and most shows are on hiatus.

It's available in e-book format so that should cut down on the weight issue!

Or listen to it...although it takes a little while to get over an old English lady speaking for Jamie.

Don't judge me...I had a really long car ride.

Citygal: have you read all the books? I've read the first three, but then took a break and never picked up the fourth.

Will you pick up the fourth book eventually?

And yeah, my sister already owes the first book of the series, so I'll be visiting home this weekend, so I'll pick it up.

I'm actually thinking I'll go ahead and read it next after I finish my current book. I just needed a break because after the third I wanted something light, under 500 pages. and I just got distracted by other books.

Honestly Outlander could be a stand alone novel, but the other two I've read are just as much fun.

Hmmm that makes sense. That's why now that I just finished the first OT, 807 pages, that I'm reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt. It's still over 500 pages, but it's a much quicker and easier read. There are so many books on my list!

I read the novel over 10 years ago so there is a lot of forgotten details, and so I'm less nitpicky than I normally would be while watching the show. But the general story stayed with me and I love Jamie and Claire. What I really, really like from the premiere is they showed Frank and Claire as happy, married couple still in love with each other. It makes the inner conflict within Claire more believable and THAT much more powerful.

I also think it enhances the Jamie/Claire story better in the long run.
