| Absolute Fan ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | My So-Called Life Appreciation Thread #2: Two Words, Ti-No. ![]() credit:-Tina- Welcome to the 2nd My So-Called Life Appreciation Thread. Hailed as the first teen show “to get adolescence right” and one of the most acclaimed series on TV during its brief run from 1994-1995, My So-Called Life pioneered the modern teen drama and made a star out of 15-year-old Claire Danes. Ostensibly centering around the trials and tribulations of high schooler Angela Chase, My So-Called Life actually expanded to include everyone in its protagonist's orbit, from school friends to extended family, and gave its stellar ensemble cast ripe material to work with during its too-short life. ![]() credit:-Tina- "This life has been a test. If it had been an actual life, you would have received actual instructions on where to go and what to do." - Angela Chase “School is a battlefield, for your heart. So when Rayanne Graffe told me my hair was holding me back, I had to listen. 'Cause she wasn't just talking about my hair. She was talking about my life.” -Angela Chase ![]() ![]() ![]() credit:obsession as an art form "Love is when you look into someone's eyes and suddenly you go all the way inside, to their soul, and you both know instantly. I always imagined I'd fall in love nursing a blind soldier who was wounded in battle. Or maybe while rescuing someone in the middle of a blizzard, seconds before the avalanche hits. I thought at least by the age of 15 I'd have a love life, but I don't even have a like life." -Angela Chase "I have all these dreams where I know exactly what to say. Then you tell me... you know... that you forgive me." -Jordan Catalono ![]() “I became yearbook photographer because I liked the idea that I could sort of watch life without having to be part of it. But when you're yearbook photographer, you're, like, never in the picture." -Brian Krakow “Apparently Delia Fischer smiles at everyone. She probably comes from one of those small towns where everyone's friendly and smiles at you for no reason. I hate that type of town.” -Brian Krakow ![]() "There are so many different ways to be connected to people. There are the people you feel this unspoken connection to, even though there's not even a word for it. There's the people who you've known forever who know you in this way that other people can't because they've seen you change. They've let you change." -Angela Chase “It just seems like, you agree to have a certain personality or something. For no reason. Just to make things easier for everyone. But when you think about it, I mean, how do you know it's even you? And, I mean, this whole thing with yearbook -- it's like, everybody's in this big hurry to make this book, to supposedly remember what happened. Because if you made a book of what really happened, it'd be a really upsetting book”" -Angela Chase "People throwing themselves at people is, like, the basis of civilization." -Rayanne Graff "Did you ever try to protect someone so much that it, like, hurt?" -Rickie Vasquez "Sometimes it seems like we're all living in some kind of prison, and the crime is how much we all hate ourselves. It's good to get really dressed up once in a while and admit the truth -- that when you really look closely, people are so strange and so complicated that they're actually beautiful. Possibly even me." -Angela Chase Icons of the Thread ![]() credit:she.is.not.you My So-Called Classmates: 1) Ruby_Slippers 2) Dorkodancer147 3) M.I.S.S.Y 4) antisocial 5)obsession as an art form 6)dawnygirl 7)SergeantPepper 8)playgroundDiaries 9)genki 10)hunee 11)PiCkLeS4dAwSoN 12)rafaboreanaz 13)ROCKSTAR Previous Thread Locker Room: My So-Called Life Appreciation Thread #1 __________________ Gilbert Blythe: "Wilt thou give up thy garter, oh fairest of the fair"? | Oh, I'm glad we have a fleshed-out OP now. I was gonna suggest dressing it up. Those first two banners by -Tina- are so beautiful. And while watching a few months ago, I took down lots of quote notes. Biased to my own liking, of course. LOL.__________________ | |||

| , hunee.Okay, here cometh the quotage ... (no accounting for repeats above) 1.01, "Pilot": Angela: "Like cheerleaders ... can't people just cheer on their own? Like, to themselves?" Angela: "I had my hair dyed." Patty: "Oh, you HAD your hair dyed. I thought it died of natural causes." Angela: "My parents keep asking how school was. It's like saying, 'How was that drive-by shooting?' You don't care how it was. You're lucky to get out alive." Angela: (to her teacher, on why she quit the yearbook committee) "It just seems like ... you agree to have a certain personality or something, for no reason -- just to make things easier for everyone. But when you think about it, I mean, how do you even know it's you? And, I mean, this whole thing with yearbook, it's like ... everybody's in this big hurry to make this book to supposedly remember what happened. But it's - it's not even what really happened. It's what everybody thinks was supposed to happen. ... Because if you make a book of what really happened, it'd be a really upsetting book." Brian: "You're not stupid. Don't act like it. It's a stupid act." Angela: "Everybody's an act. Including you." 1.02, "Dancing In the Dark": Camille: "Look, they say if you want to put the romance back in your marriage ..." Patty: "No, I hate that expression. Like romance is this thing you misplace, like an earring." Danielle: "Neil, pass the pasta." Graham: "What's the magic word?" Danielle: "Pasta." Neil: "No, that's the magic carbohydrate." Angela: (about Brian's house) "It smelled exactly the same, which was ... reassuring. And annoying. Sort of like Brian himself." Angela: "What's amazing is when you can feel your life going somewhere. Like your life just figured out how to get good. Like, that second." Angela: "Quit it! (pushes kissyface Jordan away) I mean, you have to work UP to that! I don't open that wide at the dentist." 1.03, "Guns and Gossip": Rayanne: "Everybody knows there's like 50 guns in school at any given moment. And the fact that they haven't gone off before shows what a totally safe place this is." Amber: (to Patty) "No, don't you remember? There'd be like this one person who had like perfect hair, or perfect breasts, or they were just so funny, and you just wanted to eat them up. Just live in their bed and just be them. Like everybody else was in black and white and that person was in color. Well, Rayanne thinks Angela is in color. Major color." 1.04, "Father Figures": Rayanne: "Ignore Angela! She can't help herself. She's the product of a two-parent household." Brian: "How come you can't go home?" Angela: "My dad thinks I'm at a Grateful Dead concert and he'd be really upset if he knew I wasn't." Brian: "... Wow, your dad is so different from my dad." 1.05, "The Zit": Rickie: "I don't want to be a girl. I just want to hang with girls. There's a difference." Rickie: "Who's in there?" Brian: "Sharon, and that guy." Rickie: "Oh, so what? Were they kissing? (beat) More than kissing?!" Brian: "He was like ... making her beg for her shoe." Rickie: "Wow! I never heard of that." Angela: "Sometimes it seems like we're all living in some kind of prison ... and the crime is how much we hate ourselves. It's good to get dressed up every once in a while, and admit the truth ... that when you really look closely, people are so strange and so complicated that they're actually ... beautiful. Possibly even me." 1.06, "The Substitute": Mr. Raseem: (on why he tossed everyone's essays out the window) "Why'd I do it? Good question. I did it to clear the slates. I did it to wake you up. I did it to do something. To find you. And now, guess what? Here you are, wide awake, right in front of me. I mean, wasn't that worth it? I mean, that, um, ... uh, that oak tree poem. (she smiles) That was yesterday. What are you gonna write today?" Angela: "Good question." Rayanne: (hot for teacher) "Substitute, my ass. He is the real deal." Student Essay Segment #1: My father decides how much cars were worth before they were totaled. That's his job. If I drive myself, in his car, off a bridge, what would be the estimated damage? Angela's Essay Segment: Once upon a time, there lived a girl. She slept in a lovely little cottage made of gingerbread and candy. She was always asleep. One morning, she woke up and the candy had mold on it. Her father blew her a kiss and the house fell down. She realized she was lost. She found herself walking down a crowded street but the people were made of paper, like paper dolls. She blew everyone a kiss good-bye and watched as they blew away. __________________ | |||
