Halt and Catch Fire #1: Fire Up Your 80s Playlist and Reboot!
::///HALT AND CATCH FIRE\\\:: #1 Halt and Catch Fire is set roughly one year after IBM all but corners the market with the release of its first major product – the IBM PC. In this fictional drama, a former IBM executive, Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) plans to reverse engineer the flagship product of his former employer and forces his current company, Cardiff Electric, into the personal computer race. MacMillan enlists the help of Gordon Clark (Scoot McNairy), a great engineer whose unrealized dreams of creating a revolutionary product have created tension in his marriage to Donna (Kerry Bishé), and Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis), a volatile prodigy who puts her future in jeopardy to join MacMillan's rogue PC project. Halt and Catch Fire thrives on the spirit of innovation and explores what it's like to stand at the forefront of something world-changing and work towards it, no matter the risk. ::///BIOS\\\::

don't be sorry! is it the... pacing? or the story? i find it fascinating when tech workers from the 70's/80's comment on the show. they are the worst! it's wrong, ong, ong! who cares? i mean, a fifteen pound laptop is hardly riveting, but the characters make the watch worthwhile. although, joe's desperation is starting to offend. heh.

^ Yeah I like Lee Pace and he was big draw for me but Joe is easily my least favorite part of the show. But the other storylines have really drawn me in particularly Donna and Gordon. I love that we're getting a real grown up look at a marriage relationship. That's not something you see often on TV shows today. They're not stereotypes. They feel very real to me. And Scoot and Kerry are drawing on that great chemistry they developed on Argo.

it is very slow paced, the story is interesting but not really enough keep me turning in each week though. cameron's storyline is the only one i find interesting on the show atm.

It's a very slow paced show. But I think that's mimicking the creation of their computer. These characters are kinda stuck in the daily grind of trying to make this amazing thing that they're not even sure they can make in a limited amount of time. So to me it would be a bit strange if they sped things up. There's a kind of melancholy to it too. But I like that. To me this is the best way to live in these character's daily lives and that provides a very honest character study for the main group.

i'm annoyed to see every character acting as equally petty as the next tbh.

Loved the Donna/Cameron bits in the last episode. The storyline ended a lot better than I thought it would. I hope we get more scenes of them together.

meh! none of them deserve donna's brilliance/compassion. i was just sad donna didn't take the shovel to gordon after he wondered about the magazine article! lol. i totally didn't get the symbolization of her killing the bird either, but it definitely wasn't a vicious attack, which i originally thought.

lee pace is such a captivating actor! i love the emotion he brings to his role. although, i'm pretty sure we're supposed to believe his last story might be bull sht, i kind of buy it. he seemed authentic. truly.
