Sir Arthur Hill didn't waste much time in moving on from Lady Fox to his mistress it would seem.

Lord Melville as powerful as he is in fear of so many [including women and the Irish ]. If Garrow cannot help Sarah in the courtroom, may he continue to confound Melville and Hill. What the two main characters need are some friends of their own in high places. it would appear that none have stepped forward to stand by Lady Sarah when the chips are down.

Sir Arthur is such a panto villain sometimes. The scene in the bath with the sound of the baby in the background just goes to show how much he cares about his child! The scene with Lord Melville made me laugh too. Wonder what he would make of S/T from Downton. That relationship is his worst nightmare! Garrow is going to have to think of something to aid Sarah. If she doesn't get her son back, their relationship might well take a turn for the worse. Very interesting all the stuff about what madness means. It seems strange now to think how narrow the definition of it seemed to be. I also noticed the quick chat the jurors had in the box before deciding his guilt. It was funny how they were laughing and jeering the whole time too!

Isn't he just, similarly in the scene where Sir Arthur and Henrietta are in the coach speeding back to London.

Yes i think a Tom of that era would have to spoil Melville's wig in a protest.

It seems all too likely to me that Lady Sarah could be defeated by the times in which she lives, at least until her son is old enough to defy his father.

I'd really like Sir Arthur to be a bit more sympathetic. It would give the custody story more impact if you had a degree of empathy for both parties.
It was an interesting case tonight. I liked how it left it a little ambiguous about which of the men was being truthful. I'm assuming the guy that turned Kings evidence knew that he would be re-arrested if things didn't go his way. That makes me wonder why he did it if they were innocent. One of them was going to suffer whatever happened. I can't imagine having to live with the guilt of sending someone to their death for a crime I knew they didn't commit. However, if Quinn was guilty, he (and his wife) must have known they had no option but to still go for the not guilt verdict. I guess it was a case of them thinking that the brother made his bed. He should of had more faith in Garrow!
I don't want John Southouse to die! Why isn't he following the doctors advice? Surely, even if the prognosis is bad, you try everything in your power to survive. I'm assuming Sarah is getting the money from Southouse because Garrow is the son he never had. That would make Sarah his (not quite) daughter -in-law! The conversation with Sarah about never having a child & looking out the window at the young couple kissing, makes me think John is attempting to aid his 'children' before he dies. Is the nephew his replacement? Loved the little scenes with Garrow eating cake in court & Sarah's burnt pie!

And yet i suppose it is realistic, even if Sarah had no feelings for Garrow at all and Sir Arthur no doubts i can't see him being a warm and close father to his son. Even Henrietta is coming to dislike his cold and ungenerous nature it would seem.

Why couldn't Sarah have asked the aid of that Scottish barrister from last time? Despite his allegiances at the time he came across as a less dubious character than Sylvester.

Nor do i want Southouse to die although it looks a bit grim right now, does Garrow truly realise the efforts he goes to for him? As to why he kept on working so hard and failed to follow the doctor's advice, perhaps he thought the treatments not worth the effort. I suppose in frequenting Newgate so regularly he would be aware of how it can afflict a person. The nephew is an interesting introduction i agree, Southouse's money would be better spent on his education if possible.

There is too much doubt and things left unsaid between Sarah and Garrow, for all of the initial happiness that them being freely together may have brought them. I'd like to see Sarah being a vocal figure in court again or doing things besides visiting Sir Arthur. I can't believe all would disown her, what of her family even?

I must confess to not having the highest respect for unions in the UK in 2011, however i suspect part of Garrow would be content with freeing a guilty man under the circumstances this evening, he is both campaigner and barrister after all.
