Freaks and Geeks Thread- We're all unhappy. That's the thing about life.

Hello there! I thought I saw a thread of this before on the television thread but when I went to post on it, it was gone. So I decided to start one up again. My sister just bought the season on dvd a few days ago and we love it. I'm on the fourth disc right now but so far it's worth the money. Does anyone else own the season on dvd? My favorite character is Bill. He cracks me up so much. The show is just great and I'm really disapointed that it got cancelled.

Here's three of my favorite quotes.

Bill Haverchuck: Fredericks, you're a turd... a stinky f-fat turd, go sniff a jock strap, you poop head. You love patting boys' butts... butt... you butt-patter! You're a perv and a loser and a stinky t-turd!
**

Neal Schweiber: So I wake up this morning, and guess what is sitting on the end of my bed?
Bill Haverchuck: A turd?
Neal Schweiber: Yes, Bill, a turd.
Bill Haverchuck: Ewwwwww! Gross!
Neal Schweiber: An Atari video set. Is my dad the coolest, or what? So shall we say Asteriods, my place, 3:30?
Bill Haverchuck: Yeah, if that's when you wanna get your butt kicked.
***

Bill Haverchuck: Cindy cut the cheese.
Neal Schweiber: Oh my god!
Sam Weir: Shut up.
Bill Haverchuck: I'm serious. She blamed it on the chair.
Sam Weir: Well, what kind of chair was it?
Bill Haverchuck: I don't know. Vinyl?
Sam Weir: Vinyl chairs always squeak!
Bill Haverchuck: It wasn't the sound of vinyl squeaking. It was the sound of cheese being cut.
***

I bought the DVDs but I haven't had a chance to start watching them yet. I love this show.

I got the SE DVDs (with the yearbook) last week and I'm still watching them over and over again. F&G was off the air so long I almost forgot how good it was and it dropped of my list of all time favorite TV shows (behind Once and Again and The Prisoner) but now that I've seen again how utterly perfect all 18 episodes were its zoomed back to the top - maybe the best TV show ever and I'm so glad people who never got to see it the first time will discover a treasure for themselves.

It is without a doubt the most realistic (and yet funny/touching) High School show to be on television. Bill Haverchuck is still my hero and Lindsay Weir was the perfect girl (part Freak/part Geek/all heart) and I'm still waiting for Linda Cardellini to be the big star she deserves to be.

And FYI for those who haven't got the DVDs yet - Even the not-so-pricey regular 6 disc set is probably the best DVDs of any TV show I've seen. Lots of extras, commentaries and every one of the best TV shows ever. I still hate NBC for jerking it around like that and cancelling (for those who forgot it was replaced on the schedule by a THIRD night of that lame Dateline show - how lame is that.)

Very lame. I didnt know that they did that. I thought it was because the ratings were so low. I didnt get around to watching all the extras yet. I watched disc one and two of deleted scenes which I loved. Your right about the show being realistic. The actors/actresses fit perfect with the show. I dont know if it's just me but the guy who plays Ken in the show has really sexy eyes. I love when they show the theme song with them all getting their pictures taking and they show a close up of his eyes. I thought that him and the band girl made a cute couple also I liked how Neal had a huge crush on Lindsay.

I love this show and been having fun watching the DVDs.

There's a thread for this show on the 80's board.

Did anyone go to the cast signing yesterday? I want to hear details.

Oh man. There's a Freaks and Geeks thread in 80's board? I didnt know that. I feel dumb now. Do you think they will close this thread or will it be fine since it's in a different board?

No I didnt get to go to the cast sighing, Where was it located at? I wish I did though, that would of been awesome.

No worries. We can share the F&G love on both boards.

It was at the Tower Records in LA. I heard it was a good turnout. The entire cast was there.

I'm reading over the posts now. I didn't know it was replaced by Dateline either.

What happened to him Ken and the band girl? It has been a while since I'v3e seen the eps, and I haven't watched them all yet.

ETA: You can see some pics of the cast signing at
wireimage. Natasha (Cindy Sanders) sure has changed!

I didn't know there would be a F&G thread on the 80s board either. It never occured to me to look there - F&G seemed like such a 90s show even though it took place in the 80s.

As for the Dateline thing. It wasn't the fact that it got replaced by Dateline (lame in itself) but the fact that it got replaced by a 3rd night of Dateline - NBC already had Dateline running on two other nights back then - and even worse (as either Paul or Judd *forget which* mentions in the yearbooks) the first Dateline to air in F&G's slot got higher rating than F&G ever did, thus securing in NBC's dumb minds that they did the right thing.

Oh and Melis, thanks for the info on the turnout in LA. If the cast ever did a signing in NYC, I'd cut school to go - and don't I cut school for NOTHING (tution being money and all).

That is dumb of NBC because F&G and Dateline are two very different shows. It's not like they can be compared. Oh well, I can't say I'm a fan of NBC's decision making.

I read on the F&G site that they are trying to organize an east coast F&G cast signing.

Melia- Thanks for the F&G news and the pictures. Natasha (Cindy Sanders) does look different. Ken and the band girl ended up together still at the end of the series. At first he almost broke up with her because he was freaked out and nervous to find out that she was born both male and female and at a point he thought he might of been gay, but than he realized that he really does care about her and doesnt care that she was born like that.

I just started the last disc of the dvd. I love the epsiode where Sam and Cindy are finally together and he askes her to go to a make out party and he is nervous to kiss her. And also Bill ends up making out with the head cheerleader and during the game of spin the bottle, Neil kept landing on Bill , that was a great epsiode.

Does anyone have a character they didnt like much? I guess my character would be Nick. He was a real odd ball, .

kpalm83- The show is great! I'm not really good at describing in good details about a show but I can tell you it's worth the money.

Thanks for explaining to me about Ken and the band girl. I'm glad they ended up together.

I'm glad that Sam and Cindy got together, too. He had such a crush on her.

I don't think there were any characters I didn't like. They all had something about them that I liked.

kpalm83 - I agree that it's great. Let's see if I can describe it. The show was about high school set in the 80's. It focused on two groups, the freaks and geeks. The show was very realistic and did a brilliant job of capturing the heartache and pain of growing up. Unlike other "high school" shows, this show didn't focus on the popular kids. It wasn't glamorous. It was realistic and sometimes was like a documentary. If you're wondering, you didn't have to go to high school in the 80's to enjoy the show. It's appealing to many generations. I think every high school had its freaks and geeks whether they were called that or not.

I love the offical website of Freaks and Geeks. Did anyone of you take the trivia. I got like 800 something, which I guess was an ok score.

Thanks.

The site is great. I'm glad they still have it around. I think I did poorly on the quiz. I took it before the DVD came out, and my memory wasn't very good.

Yeah I did poorly also the first time I took it. I got like a 400 something score and the quiz result basically said I was pathetic, .

I loved the scene where Sam, Neil, and Bill had to play dodge ball in gym class. I felt so sorry for them but it was so funny too
