I couldn't help feeling a sense of sadness for Dexter after he killed his brother. Especially from the flashbacks, you could see the love that his brother had for him and he was just taken away from Dexter.
Exactly... ITA!... a wierd attitude from Harry

Grrrr.. I posted earlier, but it's not here now...

Anyway... to recap -->

Though sad that Harry opted to take only Dexter, I basically can understand where Harry is coming from... I mean in his eyes, young Dexter probably wouldn't remember it (even though we find out eventually that it was just buried VERY deep).... and because Rudy was older & would definitely remember....

Perhaps Harry saw something in Rudy's eyes that (as a cop) he knew that it was something Rudy would likely never recover from (i.e. that it would leave deep scars/impressions on his development & psyche) and he was 'damaged'... *shrug* Harsh I know, but I get it...
??

Just my rambling thoughts on that...

BTW, I thought they left the polling up til the end of the month... I went to check on the count and it wasn't there... *shrug*

^^ Yeah, I agree. He really had his hands full raising Dex, so I imagine it'd be very difficult raising the two of them. And maybe Brian would be a bad influence on Dex as well?

I understand what you're saying Astra. Maybe Harry had a better bond with Dexter as a child. Obviously he knew him before his mother's death. Brian could have had issues we weren't aware of or like Astra said, he just could see that Brian would be seriously messed up. He had his own family to consider too when making his decision to adopt.

Hopefully, we'll find out about why Harry did what he did. I really felt bad for Brian though. He knew all along that he was the kid that wasn't chosen and sent to live in orphanages. That's rough, man.

Even if Harry didn't want to raise Brian himself, he could have put more effort into trying to help him rather than trying to erase his connection to Dexter.

I don't agree with what Harry did at all. He promised the mother that he would protect the kids, that doesn't mean taking care of one and ignoring the other. I'm sure if Harry did something...anything at all..Brian would have turned out differently. Sure he was old and he probably remembered what he saw, that doesn't mean he didn't deserve a chance to live a normal life with his baby brother. He was a little boy when it happened..it's not like the next day he went and started killing people. I'm sure if he had a father figure like Dexter had, he would have been fine..or at least a better chance than what he was given.

That's true. The fact that he just left him there is really crappy. He could've helped him in even a minimal way. I guess he was just evaluating the risk of raising two (potentially) traumatized kids and didn't consider other options? I don't know. It's kind of sad that Dexter's father figure isn't quite the shining example he was made out to be.

I know, in the beginning I really liked Harry a lot but the more we learned about him, the less I liked him. I can't believe he went and killed himself after he saw what Dexter was doing...like he wasn't the one that taught Dexter his each and every move.

One thing that I still can't forget is the fact that Harry left Brian in the cargo container covered in blood and alone. The only thing that the two brothers had inside that was each other and Harry just took Dexter away while he left Brian in there to suffer it alone...even if it may have been just a few minutes..that had to have made a huge difference. How hard would it have been for him to get Brian out of there too instead of waiting for help to arrive.

It seems like Harry already made his decision about Brian and damned him to hell.

I can understand why he killed himself. I mean, it sounds good on paper to hone Dexter into a vigilante crime fighter, but when he actually saw Dex chopping up a body (and HAPPY!), it made him devastated, like he had made a giant mistake. I think it was a reasonable reaction.

But leaving Brian covered in blood in the cargo container? That was cruel. Like DiagonalZipper said, he didn't have to take him in, but at least help him out of there or something?

I have to say, even though it sucks that Dexter's mentor turns out to be an ass, what with having affairs with informants and stuff, I like how it makes Dexter question the code he's been given by him.

Me too... I have to call him Rudy... even though we found out his name...

True... he could have probably done more to help him, but I can also see that he might have felt that if he tried to help Brian/Rudy that either the truth would have come out OR that he would have endangered Dexter's well being which as a parent, wouldn't even be considered (at least in this parent's mind)...

Another note... I don't know Harry grabbed Dexter out of there first; but he didn't 'leave' him... He had another officer remove him from the container.

I think despite the failings of Harry, 'the giver of the code', that Dexter values the structure and purpose it gives him....

Hi and welcome randfal_x

Call me a skeptic but I'm still wondering if Harry actually did kill himself or if some other scenario will develop in season 3.

I hope they don't make it so that he was murdered or something. I mean, first we think he died from heart problems, then we find out he killed himself...perhaps midway season 3 we find out Harry is still alive, hanging out with Tupac and Elvis?

This is tv, so it's entirely possible! I just can't help but feel Harry's story isn't over... *shrug*
