I can't even imagine how Rita would react to finding out about Dexter's dark side. She's had at least one bad relationship with Paul but in her mind, Dexter has been nothing but wonderful, loving and caring to both her and her children. The revelation about Dex would certainly shock her but she might also look at both sides of his nature. 1) He only kills bad people (even though the need to kill in general is part of his nature) and he has, so far, kept from overstepping the Code of Harry. 2) He treats her with respect and that is important to Rita.

Because I ship Dexter and Rita I really hope in my beating shipper heart that she stays with him but I just can't really see it. In realistic terms, Rita would find a way to get away. Who knows though. Maybe Rita's love is so strong she can look past that *hopes* but I just don't see it happening, unfortunately.

For some reason, I have this image of Rita being able to stay with him. I don't know, I just have this feelin' she'd maybe in a weird way look past it.

She even tried to help him through his "addiction" after all the **** she went through with being with an addict in the past. It shows how deeply she feels for him but I still think finding out the real truth would be too much for her. She'd run but really, I don't think any person would stay.

I'm pretty positive that Rita is going to drop the "love" bomb on Dexter in Season 3. I can only imagine how he'll respond to that one.
I think Rita would run too... She can guess that something is up w/ him (the whole shoe thing), but I think she would really take it personally if she found out the full depth of everything that has been going on... i.e. --> I'm such a reject that only druggie-wife-beaters and serial killers would want me... (At least that's how I think I would react).... It would be hard not to feel that way I think... even if he is just 'taking out the garbage'.

I think maybe she could look at it rationally later.... but I think she'd probably bolt. But hey... she might surprise me.... Her character has done that a couple of times for me (cursing at the school pickup lane & w/ the shoe incident)... so she may just surprise me again... *shrug*

I agree with you completely, Astra. She might think about it rationally later, probably after being away from him awhile when she realizes she misses him. But as a mother, she'll react very emotionally at first. Rita is also a very sensitive soul, so it just makes sense for her character to take it badly at first.

I love it when Rita surprises me though. It's always when she's finding her own independence which I love. One thing about S2 that I really loved was it allowed Rita's character to grow independently from Dexter for a while. In season 1, she used the stability of being with him to find her own voice with Paul, but after his betrayal with Lila, she had to find her own way without him. I liked that it was Dexter, for a change, needing Rita and Rita putting on the brakes. She was sticking up for herself and her dignity, something that took a long time for her to do with Paul.

It makes me happy that Rita is now with Dexter because she wants to be, not because she needs to be. That fact is arguable, I realize, but I think that that's how it is.

I liked the concept before even watching it. The actual killing would take some getting used to, but the fact that he kills "bad" people makes it all right to me. I wish there was a real Dexter to be honest.

The fact that he kills "bad" people makes it better than killing innocents, but really, that isn't why I like Dexter at all. I don't like him because he kills people. I like him because of the moral struggles he has with himself. He is constantly battling the demon inside of him that makes him want to kill against the good man that has been instilled inside him. Really, the twisted code that he's starting to realize isn't as infallible as he once thought is just a medium that he used for a while. Actually I would love to see the day where Dexter doesn't have the urge to kill anymore. It would show a success in his struggle. I would be happy for him that he didn't have that monster hanging over his head anymore. I just love Dexter for Dexter.

I love Dexter, period too. I'd like him to not have to kill one day, but to choose to.

I'm so glad for that too! That she can stand on her own two feet with or without him... I'm glad they got a bit away from having her call him to rescue her all the time... though it still happened, it was less frequent...

But the moral dilemma is, to me, one of the best things about the show.... We know it's wrong deep down what Dexter is doing, but in some ways he's a anti-hero because even though it's wrong... he's at least getting rid of the societal elements that are dangerous to others... Makes for a cool debate

To me it's not the killing that is "wrong," but that he enjoys it so much.

Can't wait for Season Three!

It's not who he kills, I agree, it's the fact that he has an overwhelming desire to kill. Sadly, Dexter needs to kill and he can't help himself because he is a serial killer without remorse. If he hadn't been taught the "Harry Code", his killing sprees would probably involve more than just people who are guilty of horrible crimes.
