Episode 201: Slip of the Tongue

After reuniting at the end of Season One, Hank (David Duchovny) and Karen (Natascha McElhone) decide to pack up and head to New York. As part of the reconciliation, Hank undergoes a grueling vasectomy at Karen’s request.

That night, Hank and Karen meet Charlie (Evan Handler) and Marcy (Pamela Adlon) for drinks. They wind up bumping into Sonja (Paula Marshall), the vomiting Scientologist from season one, who’s now pregnant, and her new boyfriend Julian (Angus MacFadyen), a renowned self-help guru.

The group heads to a party at the home of legendary record producer Lew Ashby (Callum Keith Rennie), where Hank has an accident when he confuses a partygoer for Karen. On the ride home, Hank gets arrested for driving under the influence and assaulting an officer.



Episode 202: The Great Ashby

Hank finds himself in jail after assaulting a mouthy police officer. Karen, still upset at Hank for his accident at the party, refuses to bail him out.

In prison, Hank is reintroduced to fellow inmate Lew Ashby, who proposes that Hank write Ashby’s long-awaited biography. When Hank refuses, Ashby bails them both out and tells Hank a story of the girl he loved and lost.

Meanwhile, Charlie gets fired after his former assistant, Dani (Rachel Miner), plays the agency president a montage of Charlie’s self-pleasuring office sessions.



Episode 203: No Way to Treat a Lady

On Hank’s first day as biographer to Lew Ashby, he’s reintroduced to Trixie (Judy Greer), the hooker with a heart of gold, who stirs up trouble by claiming that Hank is better in bed than Ashby.

When Karen and Sonja meet to discuss a renovation project, Julian interrupts to work his guru magic on Karen.

Becca (Madeleine Martin) grudgingly starts her first day at Mia’s (Madeline Zima) private school, where she meets an unexpected friend, Damien (Ezra Miller).

Meanwhile, Charlie spots one of Marcy’s clients, a porn actress named Daisy (Carla Gallo). While pitching himself as her agent, Charlie hops a ride with Daisy only to realize that he’s in the middle of an impromptu porn shoot.



Episode 204: The Raw & the Cooked

Hank and Karen throw a dinner party for a few close friends: Charlie and Marcy, Ashby, Sonja, Julian and Mia. Becca and her new boyfriend Damien round out the group.

Before everyone arrives, Hank pops the question, but Karen begs off to think it over. At dinner, it’s revealed that Hank is the likely father of Sonja’s baby. Becca stands up to Julian, much to Hank’s delight. And Ashby nearly dies of an allergic reaction to sushi.

At the end of the evening, Karen decides that she can’t marry Hank.



Episode 205: Vaginatown

After getting dumped by Karen, Hank is relegated to living at Ashby Manor.

In order to distract Hank from his heartbreak, Ashby arranges a sex session with popular, yet incredibly annoying, celebrity chef, Chloe Metz (Meredith Monroe).

Meanwhile, Charlie takes on a new client, Daisy, who’s eager to land the lead in a porn film called Vaginatown, a remake of Roman Polanski’s Chinatown. Charlie meets with the film’s director, Ronny Praeger (Hal Ozsan), and secures her the part, but only after investing $100,000 of his own savings.



Episode 206: Coke Dick & the First Kick

Hank decides to seek out Lew Ashby’s long lost love, Janie Jones (Madchen Amick). He discovers she’s now a Beverly Hills wife and mother.

Later, Hank accidentally walks in on Julian going at it with a rocker chick he’s “mentoring”. When Hank confronts Sonja about the discovery, she reveals that, much to her frustration, they have an open relationship.

Mia spends the day trailed by Rolling Stone reporter Annika Staley (Carly Pope). After finagling their way into Ashby Manor, Hank takes a liking to Staley, but is shocked to discover Mia leaving Ashby’s bedroom later that night.

Meanwhile, when a location falls through, the Runkle residence is transformed into the set of Vaginatown. The lead actor’s failings force Charlie to step in for the money shot.


Production Notes

When we last left the Moody family, the trio were making a hasty getaway as runaway bride Karen left husband-not-to-be Bill at their wedding reception. Did Hank (DAVID DUCHOVNY), Karen (NATASCHA McELHONE) and Becca (MADELEINE MARTIN) really drive off into the sunset or was it all just a dream?

It was no dream, as Hank and Karen will soon find out. “This season is about exploring the mystique of happy endings,” reveals CALIFORNICATION Executive Producer Tom Kapinos. “Last season ended with the guy getting the girl, which is exactly what he wanted. Now he wakes up in the morning and has to figure out how to maintain that relationship.”

Hank and Karen’s road to happiness is long and twisted. The three moved back into Hank’s place, but their domestic bliss is complicated by a certain young miss – Bill’s sixteen-year-old daughter Mia (MADELINE ZIMA). In Season One, Mia seduced Hank and stole his novel about a man who sleeps with a much younger woman. Now, she’s throwing wild parties, Facebooking and reveling in her undeserved fame as the author of the critically acclaimed, totally plagiarized ****ing & Punching.

Much to Hank’s chagrin, Mia has also established an influential bond with pseudo-sis Becca. Karen, likely feeling guilty for upending the poor girl’s life, brought the vixen into the Moody family fold with open arms. It’s left Hank with the constant fear of what will happen if Karen discovers he is the book’s protagonist?

Meanwhile, Charlie (EVAN HANDLER) and wife Marcy (PAMELA ADLON) are seemingly back on track after last year’s affair almost ended their long-time union. Then a chance encounter lands Charlie a new gig as agent to rising porn princess Daisy (CARLA GALLO). He’s so captivated by his new client and her star turn in the ‘boom-chica-wow-wow’ porn epic Vaginatown, that he misses some of the obvious signs of Marcy’s relapse into addiction.

Charlie isn't the only one with an alluring new job. In an effort to get back to business, Hank lands a gig as biographer to legendary music producer Lew Ashby (CALLUM KEITH RENNIE). He finds himself drowning in a sea of temptation, namely Ashby’s Laurel Canyon mansion – a den of rock & roll iniquity filled with enough willing groupies and choice drugs to entice even the most reformed skirt chaser into relapse.

As Karen works to keep the Ashby Manor madness in check, Sonja (PAULA MARSHALL), the vomiting Scientologist from Season One, returns to add yet another layer of drama. She’s traded in her E-meter for crystals and has become involved with renowned new-age guru and self-help author Julian Self (ANGUS MacFADYEN). He’s opened her ‘chi’ in more ways than one: Sonja’s pregnant, but who’s the father? And will Karen and Sonja’s new design business put another nail into the Karen/Hank relationship coffin?

Hank’s still working overtime on being a great dad to Becca, but this season, he’s vying for her attention with new boyfriend Damien (EZRA MILLER). Between make-out sessions with her new beau (who’s the spitting image of a young Hank) and trips to Mia’s house and Ashby Manor, Becca is growing up too fast. She’s now a death metal-blaring, satanic Bible-toting handful – spouting cynical barbs and old-soul advice through Noir No 5-glossed lips. In spite of Hank’s best efforts to keep her pure, Daddy’s little girl is fading fast in the rearview mirror.

Amidst the chaos, Hank manages to take some big steps towards being a real family man, but will it be enough to make up for his past indiscretions? In the end, he’ll do whatever he can to keep his girls happy, but he will always be true to himself. “I think that’s the key for me,” says series star and Executive Producer David Duchovny. “If this guy says and does what he feels, you’re going to love him just because he’s completely free.”

Hank and Karen meet with Mrs. Patterson, one of Becca's teachers. The latter isn't worried about Becca's Satanist phase and thinks that it may be a reaction to what ever is going on between Hank and Karen. After the meeting, recently divorced Mrs. Patterson flirts with Hank. They end up between the sheets while her ex-husband watches from outside. Later, Hank discovers that Patterson is not only one of Becca's teacher but also the mother of Becca's boyfriend. Things turn ugly when Becca learns that her father slept with her teacher. Marcy, Daisy and Charlie also appears.
