Bates Motel #1: “A boy's best friend is his mother.”

Bates Motel

“Bates Motel,” serves as a contemporary prequel to the genre-defining film, “Psycho,” and promises to give viewers an intimate portrayal of how Norman Bates’ psyche unravels through his teenage years.

Fans will have access to the dark, twisted backstory and learn first hand just how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma, truly is and how she helped forge the most famous serial killer of them all.

just letting you know, theres a new rule regarding starting new threads in the board guide... you need to have at least 3 people request a thread before its opened and there has to be some sort of discussion going....

ill keep this thread open for now, but keep that in mind in the future.

I'm still conflicted about this. I love the original so much and I'm a bit taken aback that it's set in the present time. But I'll probably give it a try.

Didn't know about the new rules and was hoping this thread was started, I loved it, very intense from start to finish, Norma and Norman Bates lol, that's unreal dude straight raped Norma then she killed him, can't say I blame her but whoa Norman helped dispose of the body. Then the cops show up in the middle of the cover up, I wonder what's with that bondage journal or whateva Norman found under the carpet? This show is wild!!! Can't wait til next week

I loved it
Norman & Norma's relationship is fascinating and creepy as hell
Did Norma kill her husband, because she was not surprised to learn that he was dead.
So many familiar faces

The rape scene was horrible, too graphic. i am sick of rape scenes in tv shows.

I like it so far.I think it will get better and better as the season continues.

Norma and Normans relationship is defiantly interesting
The rape scene was horrible to watch but I defiantly don't blame her for killing him
I wonder why Norma killed her husband(if she did but im pretty sure she did)
I so far liked both girls, bradly(that was her name right?)amd Emma and I liked their interaction with Norman.

I liked it. It wasn't really what I was expecting, but it was still good. And I agree with what someone else said, the rape scene was too graphic, I was quite disturbed. But I'm interested in learning about what happened with the father and also the last scene with the someone being drugged.

I'm a huge Hitchcock fan, and have seen Psycho at least 50 times. Psycho was a true classic, one of my favorite movies of all time. I just had to see what this show was all about. I liked it, I just wish they would have kept it in the past. There was just something wrong with Norma answering her I-Phone in the middle of that outdated kitchen. It just seemed out of place. Minor little thing, but still, it seemed out of place. That kitchen has played a big part in all of the Psycho movies (Psycho, plus the three sequels), so it was weird seeing it look as it did in the movies, and then having her answer her phone. Looks like some interesting things coming up in the next few episodes. Maybe we'll find out what really happened to the father, and who that is chained up in the basement.

Not sure what I think of Vera Farmiga playing Norma though. Having seen Olivia Hussey portray her in Psycho 4, I kind of still picture her as "Mother." She was creepy in that one. Psycho 4 was a good one. Like this series is trying to do, it established Norman's history a little, and explained why he was the way he was. Norman's relationship with Norma was a weird one. It will be interesting to see how this series puts their spin on the story.

I didn't even know about this show until I saw Freddie Highmore on Jimmy Fallon during Timberweek
