Back to You #1 ~ Because No One Ever Said Newscasting Was Easy

Wednesdays on FOX 8/7c
FOX Broadcasting Company: Back To You

BACK TO YOU

STARRING KELSEY GRAMMER AND PATRICIA HEATON
In the '90s, the local TV news scene in Pittsburgh was dominated by one team: CHUCK DARLING (Kelsey Grammer, "Frasier," "Cheers") and KELLY CARR (Patricia Heaton, "Everybody Loves Raymond"). They had that elusive quality all news teams need: chemistry. at least on-screen. Off-screen, Chuck was a bit of a self-centered womanizer, Kelly a bit of an uptight know-it-all. So when Chuck got the call to move up to a larger market, no tears were shed.
But after an embarrassing on-air tirade ended up on the internet, Chuck found himself on the downswing career-wise. He even questioned whether his lifestyle of chasing women and living in hotels was as exciting as it used to be. So when he got the call to return to Pittsburgh, to reunite with Kelly and try to take the newscast back to No. 1, it was an offer he couldn't refuse.

Back in Pittsburgh, Chuck has a couple of new co-workers: RYAN CHURCH (Josh Gad), the overstressed news director and MONTANA DIAZ HERRERA (Ayda Field, "Studio 60"), the perky, sexy weather anchor. There are also familiar faces like MARSH McGINLEY (Fred Willard, "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," "Best In Show"), the affable, endlessly inappropriate sports anchor, and GARY CREZYZEWSKI, pronounced Kre-shoov-ski (Ty Burrell, "In Good Company," "Out of Practice"), the perennially put-upon field reporter who always seems to get left out in the snow. But, mostly, there's Kelly, now a single mom to 10-year-old GRACIE (Laura Marano, "Without a Trace"). There was magic between them once. Can they find it again?

BACK TO YOU is created, written and executive-produced by Steven Levitan ("Just Shoot Me!" "Frasier," "Wings") and Christopher Lloyd ("Frasier," "The Golden Girls").

I was surprised to see that we DIDN'T have a thread for this show yet. It premieres tonight ... I'm actually watching it now. Not sure if I'll be able/interested in tuning in each week, but so far, it's quite witty and good.

I really enjoyed the show tonight! It's very funny. I love the chemistry between the two. I was pleasantly surprised by the storyline. I was glad the daughter was his. It will be a nice development of these characters.

I liked it! There were some moments that I didn't care for to be honest (though it did pick up in the second half), but Patty and Kelsey were great as always. Oh, and I think they have chemistry, too.

The daughter revelation was an interesting storyline. I can't wait to see where they go from there. It's definitely changing their dynamic.

I watched it tonight, and I thought it was good, but not quite as funny as I had first anticipated. I'll probably keep watching though if I have nothing to do on Tuesdays. I thought they had good chemistry too.

I liked the part where Gary says he's a little bit whiny and Montana says "I thinks it's pronounced little weenie".

I watched part of the first episode. I need to see more before I can watch it every week. I hope it's put on the network's on demand viewer.

Definetly did like the daughter storyline, though the snippet I had read in EW basically hinted that the personal storyline is what they feared could ruin the show. It really drew me in.

yeah, weenie! Too funny!

I saw it yesterday. It's really good, actually and very funny. I liked the kid storyline too. I think the line I laughed the most at was

Chuck: "Good God, woman, cut your nails! It's like a falcon landing on my wrist!"

Back to You comedy off to promising start
Reuters
Published: Friday, September 21, 2007

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- The new Fox network comedy Back to You, starring TV sitcom veterans Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton, got off to a promising start as the No. 1 show in its time slot, Nielsen Media Research reported Thursday.

The TV newsroom comedy pairing two of U.S. television's best-known talents, averaged 9.4 million viewers Wednesday night to eclipse the debut of the highly anticipated -- and controversial -- reality show Kid Nation on CBS.

Back to You ranked as the night's second-most watched broadcast overall behind the NBC hit game show Deal or No Deal, which drew 9.7 million viewers.

It also tied at No. 1 with another Fox offering, chef-to-the-rescue show Kitchen Nightmares, in the night's ratings race for viewers aged 18 to 49, the group generally most prized by advertisers.

The launch of Back to You is seen in the TV industry as a key test of whether a traditional TV sitcom can thrive in an era when such shows are being crowded out by reality TV, drama-comedy hybrids and a new breed of single-camera comedies shot in a more cinematic style, without a studio audience.

The show marks an especially big gamble for Fox, a network better known for its cartoon fare such as The Simpsons, gonzo sitcoms like Married . . . With Children, edgy dramas like 24 and the hit talent show American Idol.

Grammer, who played snooty psychiatrist Frasier Crane for 20 years on Cheers and spinoff sitcom Frasier, stars on Back to You in the similarly pompous role of TV news anchor and womanizer Chuck Darling, hitting a mid-life career crisis.

After an on-camera gaffe costs him a plum job in Los Angeles, Darling lands back at his old Pittsburgh station with his former co-anchor and paramour, Kelly Carr, played by Everybody Loves Raymond veteran, Heaton.

Executives at Fox, which began as a network tailored to young viewers, say they are counting on Back to You to help build a more mainstream audience.
