Maybe he was part of the reson I didn't like those episodes

I didn't really care for Mark, either

I did like the singing part of the musical episode

I agree with you about the daughter storyline. It was very much out of the blue. I also thought it was weird that Ally would just automatically take in this girl. She didn't even know her! How did she know that the girl wasn't trying to pull some scam?

I also enjoyed the Josh episode. That was a nice touch for the 911 victims.

Christina Ricci's character annoyed me in season 5. It was like they just kept bringing in people.

IMO, Billy was always a chauvinist pig. (Don't throw eggs at me.) It just didn't really get bad until season 3. He always had an attitude about how women should be at home. He also had a problem with Georgia when she wanted to take the sculpting class. However, he had no problem with eyeballing the blond mail carrier in the office.

Edit: Oh yeah, I agree, Julie. Mark was brought in at the wrong time. They were trying to replace Billy.

Okay, I did the screen time of all the main characters that appeared the Pilot episode. Here are a few notes to go along with the results:

* These numbers may not be exact, but they're the best I can do with what I have to work with.

* These numbers are for both visual (when you see them) and audio (when you hear them). That means that even if a character is not on screen, they can get some points by their voice being heard (like Vonda's background singing, ect.)

* I did not have Young Ally or Young Billy as part of Ally or Billy's counts because even though they're technically the same character, they're played by different people.

* I do not count photographs with the characters in them.

* The intro, end credits, and blank screen for "commercial breaks" are not included in the "episode length" count.

That being said, here's the time and percentage I got for each character:

Pilot episode length: 40 min 56 sec

Ally: 30 min 12 sec (74%)
Billy: 10 min 29 sec (26%)
Richard: 8 min 44 sec (21%)
Vonda: 4 min 49 sec (12%)
Georgia: 4 min 29 sec (11%)
Renee: 3 min 1 sec (7%)
Elaine: 2 min 55 sec (7%)

Wow, that had to have been time-consuming! Julie, are you doing the episode/character breakdowns for those 6 shows for fun? I'm just curious.

I'm sort of curious on how many times Richard used "Fishisms" throughout the series. I know he used them lots during the first season!

I'm halfway through season 4 right now. I'm taking the season really slow to prolong getting to season 5!

But people for the other shows have shown an interest in me posting the results when I finish each episode, so I thought I'd do the same here

That's cool - thanks for posting them on here.

I'm interested in seeing (time-wise) how much John was used in season 1 since he didn't become a regular until the last half of the season. I know he wasn't in much of five as well, which is sad.

Yeah, I'm interested in John's S1 and S5 numbers as well, but I'm currently working on episode 2 (aka John's first episode) so I should have some John numbers soon

I used to love this show! Wasn't much into it in the 5th season though. For a long time, I shipped John Cage/Ally

. Thought John was adorable

... and they were both kind of weird, in their own ways

.

Also enjoyed the Richard/Whip and Richard/Ling ships.
