The Affair #1 - A Twist on Infidelity

Thought I would open a thread for Showtime's new series The Affair, which airs at 10pm on Sundays. I thought the series premiere was great and I loved the show's format of having different perspectives. Anyone else watching?

Guess this show didn't have much internet presence!

I can't say I liked it or hated it. The fact that it was 100% serious business all the time was a little off putting. Life does have some comedy to it damn it! Anyone else confused by the differences between Part one and part two of every episode? Sometimes two scenes which were supposed to be the same events transpiring were so different! All I can think is we don't have the whole truth because its all a he said/she said retelling of everything. I wanna know the truth. And, who would cheat on josh Jackson?!

I actually really really really enjoyed this show. One of the reasons is because they would tell the "same" story from two different point of views. It really shows us in an artistic way that what is seen can be completely different by the people in the scene.

For example, one of the best ways the show did this in my opinion is to capture how he sees her and how she sees herself. In the scenes from his POV, she was always fixed up with a short dress and very flirty. In the scenes from her POV, she wasn't so beautiful and fixed and was a sad grieving woman.

Thanks for bumping this.

The premiere and second episode were so good :thud: Love that they added Cole and Helen's perspectives.

You're welcome! I need to catch up on the new episodes-planning on doing that this weekend!

This series is so well done, and it's great to see from different perspectives. I'm glad to see they're adding Cole and Helen's perspectives as well.

It really makes you think how different things really can be perceived. :)

Yeah this show makes me think a ton about what other people think and see compared to me.

The show is incredible though :thud:

Sames! It's very eye opening, and the acting is superb!

The show has tried to shake it up in the second season with a few more viewpoints

IMO it worked better with just Noah and Allison

I think it's much better this season  I love Helen and Cole.

I've always really, really liked it though.

I think the best episode of this season was the first episode and that was with Noah and Helen's POV.

Alison and Noah's perspectives were too much in favor of themselves so I like having more antagonistic POVs.

courtneybangelcakes 10-21-2015 08:13 AM

I really enjoy Helen's Point of View - she's a great character and Maura is a great actress. I really don't feel any sympathy for Noah

I think Alison's perspective is actually really low of herself. She always looks so disheveled and she is so immersed in her depression. She has a lot of self-loathing and pain going on.
