It starts tonight at 10pm ET! Here is a list of those first 100-81 moments. I must admit there's only one moment that I experienced first hand but some I have watched after they aired originally. Others are too old for me to even appreciate. Anyway, here's tonight's list from tvguide.com

| I was looking forward to this show but didn't remember when it was coming on. Thanks for the heads up. I really love all of these 100 greatest of television. Like the 100 greatest characters.. Archie got number 1 Archie is one of the best if not the best..I'm also glad that they put Buffy on the list. Even though they left out more main stream sci-fi characters.. like John Crichton. Anyways..can't wait for tonight...the list should be very good and provide a little history lesson of how far we have come in the television sense. ![]() __________________ Everything Has It's Time And Everything Dies | |||

| Great thread! ![]() I think one of the most memorable things on the current 100-81 list is in fact the TV drama "The Day After". I remember when it aired and how shocked and devastated -- emotionally -- The entire nation was afterwards. For those not alive, or consciously aware in 1983... "The Day After" chronicles the day after World War III once the missles form the former Soviet Union and U.S. have fallen. It tells the tale of disperate citizens from all walks of life and confronts the horrors of a post-nuclear strike with unflinching realism in terms of the physical and pyschological damage that would play out on those who survived a catastrophe of that magnitude (the end of mankind). I was only 9 years old... But I remember how my parents -- and a lot of others -- Couldn't even watch the entire movie once the bombs fell because it was that realistic and heartbreaking to sit through. I know it seems corny that so many people were emotionally effected by a piece of fiction... But you must consider the time in which it was made... During the height of the Cold War where the threat of a real nuclear holocaust was a very real possibility... And the context of the movie and that it was supposed to upset viewers and be the ultimate anti-nuclear war/proliferation statement ever made. In hindsight, I don't think network TV would be brave enough to air something like this now... Perhaps cable... But even then, I think a lot of people would not take the message of the film as seriously today considering we have been desensitizied to a lot of violent and "unbelievable" things since the film was originally made 21 years ago. Is that a good thing... Or a bad thing? | |||

We can only be so unsensitive, we're human, our emotions lead us and sometimes they are the only touch with reality when chaos strucks. We need to be gullible sometimes, silly and naive, or so we become just...heart less. I hope I never cease to be shocked. Thanks for that explanation, UM. I was born in 1983 so I couldn't have possible be able to experience this tv event. But it's chilling, the Cold War and the balance of terror, as my Political Science professor calls it have taken an emotional toll on me...in 2004. I can't possible imagine watching something like "The Day After" in a time where destruction was on everyone's collective mind. --- I find it so curious that Marcia's broken nose made the list. It says a lot about symbolism in tv, which is one of my favorite subjects.

| I agree.. bad thing. Anytime that we stop being shocked and outraged at such events and learn to accept them as normal occurence. We lose some our humanity. I was born in 86 so... I would like to use a Farscape quote now if I could. Quote:

I haven't watched any of it yet but am for sure curious to see what all makes the list. Hmmm ... I'm thinking that scene (I forget which show it was in) where we first saw hubby and wife eluded to in the same bed will make the list. You know, previously, they'd all had twin beds. And oh, the toliet flush. __________________ The Cardinals finished the season with a red-zone touchdown efficiency percentage of 70.4, the best in the NFL.The Cardinals were the only team in the NFL not to have back-to-back losses this season.Quarterback Kurt Warner’s 98.9 passing rating in the playoffs is second in NFL history behind the Packers’ Bart Starr.Good luck in the playoffs ... carry these statistics throughout and you'll be nearly impossible to beat!

| If Sept. 11th isn't on there... I don't know what to think. I think a few real life events have to be there like 9/11, the Space Shuttle exploding (in 1986) and possibly the Berlin Wall coming down. Those were life-altering and history making events. Ironically, this is what I was saying in that because horrific and unbelievable things like 9/11, occur... We have become jaded when it comes to entertainment because these days, the real world is more frightenig and "awe-inspiring" than any CGI movie could be... But in a bad way, obviously. Switching gears... I also think that Captain Kirk and Uhura's interracial kiss on Star Trek has to be on that list somewhere because that is another mile stone in mainstream TV entertainment ![]() | |||

Ah, probably. But I hadn't even realized they'd shared a kiss. I'm a "modern trekkie" and not of the old original ST.__________________ The Cardinals finished the season with a red-zone touchdown efficiency percentage of 70.4, the best in the NFL.The Cardinals were the only team in the NFL not to have back-to-back losses this season.Quarterback Kurt Warner’s 98.9 passing rating in the playoffs is second in NFL history behind the Packers’ Bart Starr.Good luck in the playoffs ... carry these statistics throughout and you'll be nearly impossible to beat!
