Aşk-ı Memnu



Aşk-ı Memnu (Turkish for "The Forbidden Love") is a Turkish novel by Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil.



Plot Summary

Aşk-ı Memnu takes place in Istanbul. Firdevs is a middle-aged widow with an infamous reputation for belonging to a morally corrupt family,
nicknamed as "Melih Bey's Team". As the novel begins, Firdevs is planning to marry Adnan, a wealthy gentleman. However, in an unexpected manner,
Adnan asks Bihter, Firdevs' 24-year-old daughter, for marriage. Adnan and
Bihter are getting married. Bihter soon gets into a conflict with Nihal (Adnan's 18-year-old daughter by an earlier marriage),
Mademoiselle de Courton (an old French lady who serves as a teacher to Adnan's two children,
Nihal and Bülent) and the house servants. Bihter is eventually seduced by Behlül,
her husband's young nephew. Bihter and Behlül's secret relationship continues for one year, until the young man (Behlül) falls in love with Nihal,
his cousin, who is also in love with him. Behlül and Nihal prepare for marriage. Bihter is now obsessed with her betrayed love for Behlül.
Beşir, a young house servant, reveals the secret of Bihter and Behlül's forbidden relationship to Adnan. Meanwhile, on Nihal & Behlül's wedding day,
a desperate Bihter shoots herself with a gun because she could not take it anymore. She did not want to see Behlül and Nihal together.
Behlül leaves the house because he wanted to leave everything behind and he was very shameful of himself for all that he did.
At the end Behlül goes to Bihter's grave and cries his heart out and tells how he wished that he & Bihter could be together
and how much he regrets that he did not ran away with her when she wanted to.
Adnan and Nihal try to recover from this disastrous experience and they leave everything behind and start their new lives

Nur Aysan = Peyker - Firdevs' oldest daughter
Ilker Kızmaz = Nihat - Peyker's husband
Fatma Karafil, Rana Cabbar, Evren Duyal and Pelin Ermiş = Şakire, Süleyman, Nesrin and Cemile - Adnan's servants in the house

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am that we have a thread for this show. The title is so true, it does own my soul.

The ending was sooo sad. I knew Bihter was going to kill herself in the end, but I kept hoping that they would change the end. Bihter broke my heart the entire episode and Beren did such a great job!

&& Yes, the ending was heartwrenching, I knew Bihter was going to kill herself too but just like you I still kept hoping she & Behlül would end up together... but he once again showed that he was too afraid to ran away with her... I know what they did was wrong but I just wanted them to be together and just . Idk UGH

The scene where Behlül went to Bihter's grave was so sad! I cried there too



I absolutely adore Beren Saat, she's an amazing actress and she did so wonderful on every episode!

I watched that Toy Story video - BK were so funny! And I thought it was so cute that they're voicing Ken and Barbie. I would love it if in the future they did another show together, but this time with a happy ending. Or a movie, anything really. They have such great chemistry!

Oh I am Team BB all the way! I'm not saying that what they did was ok at all. Of course cheating is bad. But I really felt that they loved each other and they just didn't know how to handle the bad situation they were in. I really wish that Behlul had run away with her the first time she asked him to, but then we wouldn't have had a show.
