Spencer Hastings is the girl who wants to be perfect. Paige McCullers is the girl who has to win. Like Paige, Spencer strives to be better than anyone else in everything she does. Like Spencer, Paige comes from a family that stresses nothing less than perfection. And both of them are stars on Rosewood's varsity field hockey team. But despite being two sides of the same coin, the girls can't believe they have anything in common. Spencer believes Paige's dark side is always lurking just below the surface and Paige sees Spencer as a bully following in the footsteps of Alison DiLaurentis. Distrustful of one another, they are brought together by Emily Fields -- Paige's girlfriend and Spencer's best friend -- and slowly, they come to understand and accept each other.

High noon at Rosewood High. Spencer and Paige find themselves alone in the hallway and you've never seen two people less willing to back down from a fight in all your life. Because, like, if you're going to be the best at a thing, you can't just love to win; you've got to hate to lose. And these two, if they got trapped together in a canyon 127 Hours-style, it'd be an actual race to see who could chew off her own arm first. [x]

Spencer and Paige stare at each other in a way that's full of sorrow and understanding and residual anger and will launch a hundred thousand McHastings fanfictions in the off season. Just you wait and see. [x]

But when Emily shouts, "Just let me talk to my friend!" You know who she's talking about. And so does Paige. So when Emily goes running into Hanna's arms, she and Spencer spare a look every bit as painful, and as beautiful, as the time they sent the whole school running. It was about how much they loved Emily. A whole fight, a whole war -- not unlike the one Alison started with her, really -- about who loved Emily more, who was allowed to love her more. [x]

Truly, outside of Paily, my scenes with Spencer are some of my favorites of the whole time I've been on set.
Troian is one of the first main cast I've worked with outside of Shay, and it was such a different energy. It's interesting because Spencer Hastings is a
beast and Paige McCullers is nothing if not strong, so it's basically like two giants getting ready to rumble. It was phenomenal to work
with Troian. I was dying for a scene with Spencer, and the writers wrote the perfect one. [x]

I was going through the OP, and I really agree with this quote -

I feel like it kind of sums them up perfectly. It's not really about their hating each other for any legit reason, it's about Emily, and I honestly think it's that love of Emily that the writers should be using to bring them together.
