It's a flashback as they're playing their parents. The trailer is rather good as they've cut in footage of the actors from the 80's. And seeing the Breakfast Cub guy as he looks now makes me feel old

Well the trailer is about 100x better then the show, yes. Luke Perry acts just the same 30 years on.
