I actually thought that their sister's suicide had happened more recently and the scenes with her were flashbacks, but it turned out that they were Josh 'seeing' her and keeping her in his life through that - he talks to her and it seems to actually help him. The same can be said for Josh and Amanda's relationship - you can tell how much they love each other and it's kind of sad but beautiful to watch their interactions. It's definitely not a film where the line between 'right' or 'wrong' is drawn - it really shows that in life, everything is so much more complicated than that.

All the actors did an amazing job with the complexity of their characters and story. I thought the film was effective of showing both the pain and also showing that it is possible to somehow come to peace, but that that doesn't happen overnight.

Peter Vack and Troian have so much chemistry - I hope there's an opportunity for them to reunite in another feature film at some point.

I guess those are just my brief thoughts for now ...

(tech wise I was kind of annoyed because the version that I downloaded from iTunes had some sound/picture syncing issues, so hopefully no one else experiences that. The score and cinematography are beautiful though - I kind of wish I got to see this on a theatrical screen. *** also, does anyone know the name of the song in the trailer? It plays at the end of the movie and it's amazing but I can't seem to find any info on it).

One of those additional posts was mine so I'll post it again here

I saw the film too and I was very impressed with it, much more than I expected. Honestly I was kind of expecting not to like it since I was really not impressed with Spring Breakers

It was good, but definitely not for everyone. It was captivating and disturbing at the same time. Some scenes were definitely hard to watch but beautifully shot so you didn't want to look away. The way they responded to every situation gave you the impression of just how messed up this family was. The way the kids act would shock you at first until you see the way the parents act and suddenly it all makes sense.

And random fact: Parker Bagley, original Jason DiLaurentis had a small role in the movie.

I agree that it's definitely not for everyone because of the issues it raises, but I think in a way, it says a lot about humanity.
