The money problems are a realistic situation... I will assume Scott's dad has tried to help but Melissa turned him down. When Scott was overhearing the convo I felt bad for them. I'm sure his first thought is to use that money to help

a drunk? I remember her saying "I told a drunk to get out of the house but I didn't tell him get out of his son's life" or something like that. I remember it during the finale for S3B.

So Rafael and the Sheriff did have something in common. They liked to drink. Both for different reasons. The Sheriff was dealing with grief, and we don't know enough about Rafael to guess his character. He was a jerk to Stiles at times, but that really didn't give us much. Between the two guys, I think she'd be happier with the Sheriff. Then maybe they could have some kind of life outside of work. Melissa needs a break.
