2x21 City of Blood: Episode Discussion

city of blood
2x21 - episode discussion

OLIVER CONSIDERS HIS
OPTIONS AGAINST SLADE

After Slade (Manu Bennett) threatens to take everything Oliver (Stephen Amell) loves away, Oliver decides the fastest way to stop further bloodshed is to surrender to his enemy. Knowing that surrender will surely lead to Oliver’s death, Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) go to extreme measures to keep Oliver from confronting Slade. Meanwhile, Thea (Willa Holland) considers leaving town, and Laurel (Katie Cassidy) resumes her crusade against Sebastian Blood (guest star Kevin Alejandro). Finally, Slade unleashes his assault on Starling City.

Michael Schultz directed the episode written by Holly Harold (#221).

I really enjoyed that episode a lot.

The death of Moira really effected Oliver, and it caused him to go to his other lair for a few days, I felt bad for Oliver because of how responsible he felt for the death of Moira Queen but I really feel more sad for Thea, she felt like she is losing everybody around her. First when she was younger around I believe 14 years old, she lost her brother and "Father" that was devastating to her. So to feel that void she turned to drugs. She had a huge crush on Oliver's best friend Tommy, who not only ends up dying but ends up being her brother.
Her brother returns to her but it's not like he's every really there for her, he always leaves. So she just has a brother who continually leaves all the time.

So then about a month ago she finds out that Malcolm Merlyn was her father, so Robert Queen was never her Father. She starts dating Roy... then he gets effected by the Mirakuru.. so Roy is forced to break up with Thea.

Then after being upset with her mother for awhile after she lied about a lot of things, she dies. So she never really got her peace with her.

I just can't help but relate more to Thea, when you take into a fact she's probably only 19 years old. For her to be dealing with everything she's dealing with is something. Good she didn't have a mental break down yet. That's why I loved Laurel telling Oliver that if she losses him, Thea will really lose it cause it's true.

I understand Oliver for keeping his secret, I'm 100% with him on that but from Thea's point of view there was this dangerous guy Slade who kept coming around and Oliver did absolutely nothing to warn them. Like I think last week because Slade revealed his true colors, Thea said Slade isn't dangerous he just tells the truth. So I relate to Thea in the fact, she's dealt with too much and she really doesn't have any family members because it's not like Oliver's ever really around anyway.

Now on to the rest of the episode. Laurel confronting Oliver with the fact she knows... at first I wasn't to kin on it, I was like "OH brother, here we go again." Like that's how fed up I am with everybody showing up at the Arrow's Cave but Laurel character was very much needed in this episode. I loved that Quentin this time believe what his daughter was telling him about Sebastian Blood. Laurel knew right from the beginning that he was a bad guy, and it's good for everybody else to find out.

In the long run, I believe there is entirely too many people who knows that Oliver is the Arrow. The whole cast with the exception of Thea, Robert and Quentin knows. So that kind of takes some fun out of it, but I admire the writers unpredictably.

Right now I'm enjoying Laurel's character, and I love the direction they are going for her. Her speech to Oliver at the Arrow's Cave was just terrific, and I loved her saving Oliver.

Now the original members of the A-Team I so much loved. This is the three it started with and as much as I loved Season 2, I miss when it was just the three of them in their own trio cause it was so much better which is why I loved when Oliver said "This started with the three of us, it's time we got back to that."
So I loved everything with the original trio of Oliver, Felicity and Diggle.

Oh and Isabel... no words. I really hope she gets written off soon, I just couldn't care less about the character or anything.

In general a pretty good episode, very intense. I was really on the edge all night and I enjoyed the flashbacks, and the army of guys injected by the Mirakuru is going to be a tough battle for Oliver Queen to face alone. So I can't wait for next week and the conclusion of Season 2, this just has been a great season.

Im glad Laurel knows but I found some of the scenes with her pretty contrived. "the city needs the arrow" or whatever she said? LOL. that was so cheeseyyyyy. im not sure i like her being THAT involved and i like when oliver told it was just the three of them. and I agree, I don't she got through to Ollie, she gave him information that changed his mind.

nothing against katie, i love her, but i think laurel needs serious work. shes so bland... they really need to do something with her. I guess integrating her more into the SL is a start but I don't want her involved all of the time.

the team arrow scenes were amazing though, especially that first one. loved the olicity in there, and the handholding and the looks <3 Oliver has like a special look for felicity i swear.

is it bad i hope thea actually leaves? lol. i know she wont but her characte really does nothing for me.

SUMMER GLAU IS EFFING FLAWLESS. When she attacked diggle, holy CRAP that was BAD ASS. i love her so much.

what an episode though, that ending was fantastic. Cant wait to see the remaining two.

Wow this episode was just... .

Isabel- man she was seriously awesome. Summer makes an excellent villian.

I was actually impressed that I liked Laurel. She's gotten better than she was at the start of this season. I'm glad that she's on the team now- or at least working her way in. Loved how she reached out to Dig and Felicity.

The flashback- OMG, Peter's sacrifice was amazing. And Peter having hope that Oliver would one day be a hero. Downside though, when Oliver told Sara to leave- I knew the second he said that that Sara would get taken. Other than that it was a great flashback.

I feel so bad for Thea. She's so broken. I continue to have hope for her because like Oliver, out of their family she is the most pure of heart in a way.

Felicity- man, I love her but in this episode she jwas just fun on so many levels from her speech about worrying about becoming a cocktail waitress like her mother to her threatening the guy's financials.

I'm actually glad that Oliver has a second lair. I figured that he would but it was pretty cool to see. And I'm sure there will come a point when he needs it since Isabel took over Verdant. It may not be a priority of hers ATM but I'm sure it will be at some point.

Overall an excellent episode. And loved the fight sequences and Olivers scenes with Sebastian.

I liked the episdoe.. whe it wa over I was like.. why? how? already?

I looooved Laurel.. she was bad ass.. reaching out for Felicity and Diggle an saving Ollie like twice in the episode
She looked a little lost at the lair but I'm sure she'll find her way in And I loved that she wanted to help and not just stand around.. she never was this person
And what I kinda love most is how righ Tommy was. Since Laurel talked to her father she totally believes in Ollie and doesn't doubt him

They just switched one lance sister out for the other. Don't really care about either of them or find them interesting, so a lot of this ep fell flat for me.

BUT the things I do care about on this show had great scenes tonight, like Felicity interrogating that dude (a bitch with wifi!)
The intense Oliver/Felicity moment...idk if it's meant t be this way or if the EBR/SA chem is just really good, but the way Oliver looks at her is just so intense and different than the way he looks at anyone else.
Digg /Felicity scenes were so good as always

Unless they do something phenomenal in the next two episodes, I’m pretty much done with Arrow. The entire last half of the season has been Slade wins, Slade wins, Slade wins. Island island island. Slade wins Slade wins Slade wins, island island island.

Well, this viewer hates Slade AND I hate the island crap, so yep, I’m done. I’m sure I’ll continue to catch glimpses of scenes from time to time, but the writers have totally ruined the show for me. I don’t understand why anything that is happening is happening and I really don’t understand why the body count isn’t more EVEN. The last episode I really loved was Three Ghosts. Laurel in the lair? Just no. And her dismissing the contribution that Diggle and Felicity have made to who The Arrow is? I wanted to punch her in her damn throat.

Kill Slade, kill Malcolm, kill Isbael, kill Blood….start from scratch with bad guys that makes you want to understand them, even if you don’t. Give me bad guys that are somewhat sympathetic….but the four *******s of the apocolypse need to be on a fast train to hell and SOON!!!

I still have hope for Olicity and I know I’ll watch those scenes when Oliver gets his head out of ass and realizes he loves her, but the rest of the show….not interested at all.

I think this is one of the reasons the show has lost some viewers: what's the point of whatching Slade win every single time till the finale arrives? Right now Game of Thrones is cheery compared to Arrow.

And they've also aready told us what's gonna happen in the island (Oliver thinks he kills Slade, Sara "dies", etc) so it's not interesting.

About the Queens' financial problems: can't Walter help Thea get at least a credit? He's fond of her and he already helped the family earlier in the season. I know this is a set-up for season 3 but come on!

I loved Diggle and Felicity, I'd totally what a spin-off with them. They have great chemistry and play each other really well. The bitch with wifi and "Greenpeace" were I also loved Diggle's face when he saw Isabel at the wake.

The Thea/Oliver scene was great, I hope they'll get to interact more next season.

Personally I think that's what makes Slade such a great villian. Finally we have a "freak of the week" villian that can't be stopped and it will be interesting when he finally is stopped or at least subdued.

I've loved all the villians on the show but I have a completely new love for Slade that I never had before.

He hadn't made an impression on me when I read the comic books or seen him on Smallville but here it's like he's opened my eyes so when I do catch him in the comics I have one of those OMFG moments every time now.

I'm looking forward to the final show down. It may have lost some viewers like you said but it's got me sticking aroun

When Oliver told her to stay behind, she pretty much said " Why me and not them?" What I heard was her asking what they could do that was so special that she wasn't needed. That whatever they could do, she could do better.

She also barely looked at or talked to Felicity or Diggle. I don't think this ep was setting up laurel joining the team, if that's what they were trying to do they would have had her working with them instead of ignoring 2/3 of the team. Not that I was upset by that at all, just looking at it from a story standpoint, it didn't seem like setting her up to be working with them from now on. And if that's what it was meant to be, they did a poor job of it.

I agree about the island, but it's always been boring to me. Unfortunately though I think it's just part of the show.

I like having a long term villian but only for a season. I hope he's defeated in the next few episodes or at least goes away for a while.

I hope laurel isn't gonna be working with them! I don't want anyone around though, not Sara or Roy either. Keep it to the three please.
