2x12 - episode discussion

ARROW TRAINS ROY

Arrow (Stephen Amell) offers to train Roy (Colton Haynes) so he can learn to control his newfound super-strength. However, Roy is a rebellious student and refuses to listen unless Arrow reveals his true identity, which Oliver refuses to do. Meanwhile, the Bronze Tiger (guest star Michael Jai White) escapes from prison and steals Malcolm’s earthquake machine to sell to the highest bidder. Oliver, Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) attempt to stop the transfer, but Roy gets in the way, putting everyone in danger. Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is disbarred and spirals out of control. Moira (Susanna Thompson) is thrilled when Walter (guest star Colin Salmon) asks her to dinner, but his reason surprises her. Thea (Willa Holland) encourages her mother to ask Walter to reconcile.

Guy Bee directed the episode written by Marc Guggenheim & Drew Z. Greenberg (#212).

Loved this episode! LOVED LOVED LOVED!
Great seeing Walter back, especially loved seeing Thea and Moria interact, we haven't gotten much scenes with them since Moria has been released from prison.

Also Joanna being brought back up in this episode? I loved it, I was beginning to think the writers forgot about her. Good to know Joanna and Laurel still keep in touch. So it was a nice surprise to see Joanna again in this episode, and poor Laurel having a tough time getting a job right now. I know it had to be heartbreaking for Joanna to tell her friend Laurel that.

I love Quentin trying to get Laurel help, I enjoyed his speech about Laurel not being the only one to lose someone, or to get fired from a job cause it's definitely true... everyone just deals with things different. Hopefully Quentin will eventually get through to her, and help her somehow.

Laurel and her drinking problem, just keep spiraling downward, I know eventually things will be alright with her again, hopefully it's not too long from now though.

Loved seeing Oliver determining for helping Roy because of what happened in the past with Slade, it's good to see Oliver discussion Slade in the present! So all around good there. I loved seeing everything on the Island.

I enjoyed seeing Ben Turner return, right from that introduction scene in prison I knew it'd be good! I preferred him in this episode more than I did in Episode 2: Identity, i felt he had way more to do today and it was great seeing him roll solo.

AND OMG OMG Oliver revealing his secret to Roy! I DID NOT see that coming! just amazing! now is Roy now on the team? this is just so incredible. I just did not see this one coming at all, so surprised that he knows.

OMG that ending.
That episode was just... NO WORDS! there were so much twist and turns. I guess Sara return will fix Sara into the right direction, so I guess that's who Oliver called to help Laurel?

liked Walter being back.

Moira was okay tonight. Shall be interesting in seeing her run against Blood.

Thea... meh. I liked her in Season 1 but thus far this season I can't really get into a good feeling bout her.

Laurel.. I mean, interesting. Ok. But I still don't know how I feel about her this season.

Not much with Felicty or Diggle this episode. I did like Oliver talking about helping Roy and seeing Slade on the island, etc.

Liked Roy and Oliver's interaction, especially at the end when Oliver showed him who he was. Figured that was coming when in the promo he was on the roof and the hood was off.

Hope that Roy starts keeping the anger under control now that he knows.

Well, Felicity and Roy officially meet.

Turner / Bronze Tiger was good... liked his role tonight

Again, I loved this episode so far. This show returned from hiatus better than ever, these past two episodes are probably my favorite of Season 2 thus far. This season in general has been such an awesome season, and I love that I never know what's coming next.

So Laurel is probably going to think she hallucinated Sara. But maybe that will help her, because I'd think having the sister you think is dead appear means you had too much to drink. And it really takes Sara to make Laurel interesting. But Laurel is really self involved isn't she? She thinks that she's the only person in the world that's suffered? I guess that's true character trait, but not a good one. I'm glad Quentin called her out on that.

I loved having Walter back, but Moira's storyline is still meh. But did she really just ask Walter to take care of the OB-Gyn? What are they the mob?

I keep going back on who's responsible for Sara's second death, I'm back to Slade once Ivo tells him Oliver chose Sara over Shado.

So Roy knows the secret, I wonder if that will come back to bite him. I did love that once Roy found out the Arrow was Oliver he was afraid of him.

well, I don't know if he was that afraid right after finding out. more greatful I think that Oliver helped him last year and then noted that Oliver would try to kill him if he told Thea. so I think he was worried about that but in the immediate more aftermath I think he was more greatful towards Oliver and the different ways that he had tried to help him

Just saw the episode..Good one

Pros:
Bronze Tiger much better
Det Lance being a caring father.
Thea being a BOSS 'Ughh.Go home Laurel'.
WALTER'S RETURN.
Good action
That ending

Cons:
Laurel being a little annoying again(that ending might help or it may not).
Roy being part of team..Still not sure how i feel about this..much prefer Thea to be Speedy
No Sin.
MOIRA WTF..Are they going to silence the Doctor now??
Roy beating Bronze Tiger(this was stupid.BT is among the best martial artists in DC universe and he's beaten by a suped up amateur)

Laurel My poor bb.. it sucks that I have to watch her go through this, but I honestly believe this is leading to something big for her. Katie Cassidy is awesome.. I just adore her

Felicity's hello to Laurel was adorable.. I don't know.. it just was cute. It would be interesting for these two to share more scenes.

Oliver's scene with Laurel... Oliver is definitely checking himself emotionally out with Laurel. He still cares, but it seems like he has realised that he can't help her by himself and that there are more important things going on. I think he did the right thing, he made sure she got a cab and then he called her sister to make sure that Laurel was going to be ok. As a previous Laurel/Oliver fan it made me kind of nostalgic and sad, but I think it's the right decision on the writers part... for now anyway.

Roy knowing the secret and being part of the team VERY EXCITED!!!

Okay let me just die right here okay-

The episode was the best so far this season. I was blown away.

Roy/Arrow/Oliver: The training was so much fun. Then Arrow taking Roy on basically a ride-along and the two partners working side by side was insane. I had so many comic book feels!

OMG, that reveal near the end- was so not expecting that. It was the only way he could get through to Roy and it was so freakin' worth it! The music that was played, just man. That may be my second favorite track now! Roy shaking Oliver's hand as an old school and proper thank you- just wow. And then Oliver saying that they were just getting started-kill me now!

It was so cool to see Oliver show Roy the layer and meet the team.

Thea- She has seriously grown into her own. I always look forward to her scenes and the fact that she has so much faith in her mom really shows that growth.

Moira/Walter- So glad to see these two. I know we haven't had nearly enough of them but it's nice to see them every once in a while. I love that Moira will be running for Mayor. Better her than Blood!

Amanda Waller/Bronze Tiger- First let me start with the Tiger. I loved seeing him again! And the battle sequences were incredible. But that ending when Amanda talked about forming the Suicide Squad, I just about killed over!

Laurel- Not much to say here except that I love seeing her so broken. That's what has made her so appealing this season otherwise I wouldn't have cared for her that much.

But damn for Sara to show up, I kind of had a feeling Oliver was calling her and not Quentin but to actually see that was freakin' awesome!

Final Thoughts:

Yup, easily the best episode of the season for me. Thank you ARROW!!!!!

A little underwhelming ...

Also I vote yes on this

I love Oliver/Slade (but, I know that I'm going to hate Oliver soon for putting an arrow through his eye) ... the flashbacks were perfect. TEAM SLADE!

Laurel/Quentin scenes were great, I just hate that Laurel is refusing help ...

Oh yes and finally!!! ... Sara is back!

Seriously this show is such a tease. We got only 5 secs clip of Laurel/Sara together PLEASE GIVE US MORE! lol

Roy was great last week, this week not so much. (I think I'm back to not liking him again loll .... )

My thoughts on this. Ugh I haven't done stuff like this since my Stargate Days.
6.5 out of 10

I'll give a synopsis and then go by character. Many people were telling me that I would love this episode. But I actually didn't come across loving this episode, as much as I came out liking it and irritated by past episodes. I noticed, by watching this episode, that they most definitely had dumbed down all the other characters in episode 2x11, in order to TRY to have Laurel shine. When we see most of the characters on their A -game excluding Diggle and Roy, you see a whole other dynamic at play.

Diggle: I am starting with Diggle because I need to vent. Diggle is so turning into the Token Black man. He is just there seeming to fit a quota; the Mace Windu of Arrow. It's irritating to watch because there is a lot of things they could do with Diggle. With the introduction of Roy to the team, this really pushes Diggle even more into Oliver's conscience versus partner in crime. Diggle spent the whole time in suit next to Oliver versus out in the field. I felt rather than take Roy, the weirdo with him on the mission he should have taken Diggle who could think on his feet and has dealt with the device of sorts. Ug...leading me to Roy.

Roy: I have issues with Roy as he is sort of pushed into the team. As I said elsewhere I would have preferred to keep Roy as part of this Sin and Thea team dynamic. I think it's more functional for him. I see that by introducing him to the group that he will have a sense of belonging to something bigger than himself and help him focus more. but I would have loved to see that happen more so on the small scale level. Further, it keeps him from really overshadowing Diggle, who has a potential as a strong character but they've relegated him to a prop man. Not to mention a few things annoyed me about Roy in this episode.

Roy was very Bam-Bam - esque in the episode. Bam-Bam from the Flintstones and that stuff is so irritating. He's like I'm too dangerous, I will hurt people. Next he's like put me out in the field...I could control my issues better that way. Dude...ugh. Then the hitting factor. When he was punching the slaps of concrete, wood, metal, he was able to tear through things. However, they will make me believe that his punch did not hurt Bronze Tiger? BT shouldn't even have a face now. Another thing, when BT went against Oliver, it was an almost even level match. then I am supposed to believe BT fell for a sucker punch by Roy. Utterly, painting Oliver as ineffective and BT as a weak ass villain. Down with this new Roy. They need to make him consistent or have him lose these powers.

Who next?

Moira/Krychek/Walter: WTF? Aside from not getting the storyline except to say that we are idiots that we might be willing to vote corrupt people into office even if they outed themselves. Moira as an elected officially?! As a speaker she's very eloquent and if the whole Glades thing didn't happen she would have gotten my vote. But right now...hell no. And Walter is another problem. And the whole Doctor situation...I don't know. I never wanted to see Walter as corrupt, I hope I don't see that. I can tolerate that he has shades of gray. Krychek is still sexy as hell and he will ALWAYS be Krychek. Ugh...so good.

Felicity: Loved Felicity. She was redeemed from the rent-a-cop situation. I mean seriously...they dumbed down everyone just to make Laurel shine, and she was still stupid in 2x11. Ugh. Anyway this episode was great. The initiatives she took. For instance keeping tabs on the Starling City inmates. Brilliant. Tracking down BT's partners...brilliant. She was on point as she usually was. Which says to me that writers did stupid things intentionally to create contrived situations to try to make Laurel look decent. As a point to the whole Felicity is always jealous. There was only one time I saw it, but never in relation to Laurel. Last ep she supposed Laurel and this episode she was polite to Laurel, while Laurel was obviously jealous of Felcity. Too funny.

Sara: It was a blurry image, but I will say I am super excited...This is the only thing I like about the Laurel crap, it brings in Sara. Then of course Sara steals the storyline and makes Laurel look worthless. I can't wait to see Sara and her interactions with the Team Arrow, that I am sure will happen.

Laurel: Where to begin with that? Hot Mess with an exponent. OMG! If I didn't dislike her enough, the writers disgust me further with this character. Sober or drunk she's a selfish little prig. Her dad takes her to a help group. Rather than recognizing that she has a problem ---as an adult and her world is obviously crumbling around her-- she is belligerent. Now people could tell me that she is going through the motions and this is the start of her downfall. Fine, but it takes a great deal away from the show with this overused trope. Friends of mine who have struggled with drug addictions go through years of rehabilitation and having regress. I am to buy that eventually all will be well with Laurel with this storyline. They just wrote this character into a hole. Let's not even talk about her being a mean drunk. Putting down a kid is smart while drunk. Her jealousy towards Felicity's relationship with Oliver. Clearly apparent. Felicity who actually supports her behind the scenes and who has never been unkind to this woman. Ugh. I just hate mean drunks. I really hate them. I actually rewatched the show and omitted all the scenes without her in them and the show was 10x better. Why is she still here?

Obviously, Laurel and Roy (most of the points were lost because of these two.) annoyed me in this ep; Laurel can take a hike for me. She is a another Thea . Felicity was redeemed. Slade made me cry (I won't talk about that). What I didn't want to happen to Walter, just might happen.
