1x05 - episode discussion

fter Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne) arrests Oliver (Stephen Amell) for murder, Oliver tells Moira (Susanna Thompson) the only lawyer he’ll allow to represent him is Laurel (Katie Cassidy). Laurel takes the case which puts her at odds with her father. Oliver offers to take a polygraph in front Detective Lance but things get tense when Lance asks him if anyone else was on the island with him. Oliver flashes back to when he got his first scar, courtesy of Deathstroke (guest star Jeffrey Robinson).

Colin Donnell, David Ramsey and Willa Holland also star. Michael Shultz directed the episode written by Wendy Mericle & Ben Sokolowski (#105).

This was a great episode! John was badass as being Green Arrow #2 tonight. Does he also do this in the comics? Anyways, he came through for Oliver so that he had an alibi and took Laurel's father right off his tail. The arms dealers were guys he ran into on the island when he first arrived. I think this really brought up some haunting memories for Oliver. In the end, he beat them off! I hope with all that's happening that Laurel soon follows in her moms footsteps and becomes the Black Canary; Thea becomes Speedy, her brothers sidekick; and Tommy becomes Oliver's partner in fighting crime, an archer himself.

I really liked this episode.

Lots of island stuff. I hope we see more and more of the island.

I loved the Digg/Oliver stuff and I'm also really starting to like Walter.

I'm kinda curious about this corporation though or whoever is in power. They really mean business.

I don't know the Green Arrow's comics very well, or at all honestly. But the guiy in the weird black/yellow mask....couldn't they have made it face paint? Made it a little more real?

the guy in the mask was supposed to be Deathstroke. I think originally he wears a mask.

Is still wonder who those guys on the island are.. Maybe I was too tired to get it..

I hope Walter will be back soon.. I like him..

Tommy was only for a short scene in there.. What about that? I men he is a regular..
But in my theory we gotta see him more in the future, because I think Laurel will turn to Tommy now that she will try to stay away from Ollie..

A lot of his fans were really happy the show tried to stay true to his character's design. Personally I like if they stay closer to the comic version, provided its not too cheesy for TV. I thought Arrow balanced it well,the costume was not too comicky 4 tv.

They just retained the mask, that a lot of people link with the character

Diggs as Arrow
Oliver/laurel scenes
The island guy rescuing Ollie
the island guy teaching Ollie to shoot
Kate spencer




What I didnt:
lack of training montages
lack of Arrow action scenes in the first half
Walter leaving Moira
Well dressed man, went too far trying to kill his partner's son.

Overall a good episode though hasn't dismantled 1x02 as my fav.

Im not sure either what they are doing on the island, besides Deathstroke?, the other guy questioning and torturing Ollie was Eddie Fryers,

I think its something to do with Ollie being suspected as the hood and knowing the list.

I'm sure we'll see more of Tommy.
But I didn't necessary minded his scenes in the ep was limited. It would have seem somewhat out of place if he got more in this particular ep.
