The whole thing bothers me.. her last words... her father not being there... the way she died. I just.. there was no respect for her character at all.. at least in my opinion there wasn't

Those videos are both so sad. Thanks for sharing them both of you.

Her death still is hitting me hard. Katie always hits it out of the park no matter what they give her to work with.

I remain confused as to how people who identify as fans of the character can make claims that the show didn't develop her AS a character. It's counterintuitive and strange.

Guess people can just be entitled to their own opinion?

I'm with the group of fans who didn't believe Laurel was ever giving enough. After Tommy she never was giving a real romance. We didn't get to see her fall in love or anything again which is pretty sad.

During Season 1,
she was just a love interest and that messed up the character right away.
During Season 2, a drug addict.
Season 3... which was her best season was the lost of her sister and we see her fighting to become Black Canary with training from Ted Grant... Ted who just disappeared out the show with no logical reason at all. Then we saw her form a friendship with Nyssa which was forgotten during Season 4.
Season 4 - what did we really get? Mostly Oliver disagreeing with Laurel all the time. We really didn't get much from Laurel this season and the most we got from her is the episode where she died.

I feel Laurel didn't get anything story arc this season but I actually agree she had a good arc S1-3 even if 3 was rushed at times. Then I'm also in the minority that actually really loves her S2 arc.

You would think that fans of the character would actually appreciate her arc for what it was, but that's not what seems to have happened.

People are all like "I love Laurel", but then they turn around and misrepresent and downplay the way she was handled on the series itself.

That's why I'm confused.

It's the non-Laurel fans who seem to be more appreciative of how she was handled... case in point being the following (written by someone that I believe is an unapologetic "Olicity" fan):

Oh please. Of course a few non Laurel fans will now go on and on about her having such a great story, because she is gone, she is no longer a threat to Olicity or Felicity. Before her death, I can pretty much guarantee you that these non Laurel fans were just dying for her to get out of the way, and cheering for her death. Don't bring that stuff in here just to make the Laurel fans who do feel cheated about her death to feel bad. What you are doing is being counter-intuitive for this thread. If you believe she had a good arc, great, feel free to state that, but don't come down on the Laurel fans who feel she deserved better. That is what makes this thread uncomfortable.

^ Did you even bother to read through what was written? The fact that the author is an Olicity fan has absolutely no bearing on their analysis substantively.

It's a great analysis of Laurel's character regardless of whether or not the author is a fan of the character, but the fact that it's written by a non-fan only highlights the truth of how important Laurel was and why she was worth being a fan of.

^ No it doesn't, because it is just an opinion of one fan, it's no more legit than the fans who are no happy with Laurel's arc. Why are trying to start stuff in this thread? Laurel fans are allowed to be annoyed and upset. Stop trying to apply one type of logic to a t.v show.

^ There is absolutely NOTHING opinion-based about that article/analysis, which you'd know if you bothered to actually read it.

The more I watch it, the more mad I get. They didn't even let her go out like a hero... it was such a dissatisfying death for such a strong character So disappointed.

It was disappointing. Laural/KC and her fans deserved more/better imo.

But I can't say I'm shocked, the writers never seemed to care unfortunately. I hoped they'd do her justice but my low expectations were met.
