I just remember watching season one and not seeing a romantic spark between Klaus and any of the possible love connections...until Genevieve showed up. When I watched that episode, I definitely saw the spark between them, and I wanted to see more of their dynamic.

I really shouldn't have gotten drawn to them. There were already two possible love connections for Klaus. There was no way that TPTB were going to bring in a third love interest.

^ Well, I didn't ship Klaus with either of the two possible love interests in season one, so when Genevieve came along and I saw the spark between them, I immediately latched on.

I will always be disappointed that their relationship turned sour.

^ Yes. Even though the show had lots of Elijah/Hayley shippy vibes, part of me thought that the possibility was there that TPTB would go down the Klaus/Hayley romantic route as well, especially since they were going to be connected by a child. So yes, Klaus/Hayley was one of the possible love interests in season one for me.

I only low-key shipped Klaus, so when Genevieve showed up, I was all-in with her and Klaus. And then I was let down when she turned against him and she became his foe.
