I mean, Klaus offered Caroline his condolences when Bill passed and when Liz passed, but when it was someone who he knew and called friend, he didn't say a thing. Why?

^ Yeah. Considering how much love and affection Klaus had for Stefan, even if it was hoping for too much to hope that we'd get to see Klaus' reaction to it, I at least expected a mention of Klaus hearing about it.

Klaus saw Stefan as a brother - so wished we had seen more from his reaction to learning Stefan died

I always thought that Klaus found out about Stefan sometime during season four, like maybe during the years where he was Marcel's prisoner.

4th season had already aired and finished for TO when 8th TVD season aired, didn't it?

I think Stefan died two years before season four premiere of The Originals...but that's coming from my sleep-deprived, foggy brain.

I will figure out the timeline eventually.
