It's so heartbreaking that Thor still believes Loki can be saved, they can return to Asgard and be brothers again then Loki tried to kill him by tricking him into the cell

 I think even at his darkest, Loki's affection for Thor is still there. During their battle on top of the Stark Tower, you see actual tears on Loki's face. It's hard for me to believe that was just for show, to make Thor let his guard down even more. Regardless of what he says, and his jealousy and the fool actions, deep down he knows Thor's love is the only thing he can trust, he knows how big his brother's heart is. Their characters are destined to drift apart and get closer time and time again. __________________
