Some people have an excuse for every bad thing Loki has done, but can't find it in them to forgive Odin for being a terrible father or Thor for being a bit of a showoff or the one Odin favors.

This. I understand Odin and Thor made mistakes, Odin made some really big ones, but the way Loki's reacted was his own choice and mistake.

and there comes the big debate on agency. Are our choices ever ours or are we dependent on past, shaping experiences?

It's a different kind of love. Cause I think most fans would understand that he is a villain, and he is loved AS such (see my motto below). So nothing to do with whether he deserves it with deeds or not.

I've always been a sucker for villains, my biggest ones being Spike and Sylar. Oh Sylar, how I loved him. And he was even more obviously a psycho, but that does not matter, in fact quite the opposite if it is what floats your boat.
