OMFG I'm so hyped to see this even more after all the positive reactions after the premiere last night! I'm also glad to hear Killmonger is one of the best MCU villains since Loki. I'm glad Marvel has gotten better with their villains. In their last few movies they have been great. Ego, Vulture, and Hela were some of their best villains so I'm glad to hear Killmonger is in that talk too. I can't wait till Feb. 16!

Thanks for the stuff, LigtYears.

I wish they wouldn't flog the suit so much. In the old days I wasn't aware of it being more than an ordinary costume. I think the suit being so special is a product of more recent comics. The Black Panther used to be about his own abilities, not his suit's. They're making him Captain America and Iron Man rolled into one. It's overkill and it loses sight of what's good about the character. And overdoing the suit is all too much like what they did with Spider Man in Homecoming and I hated that. And it shrinks into a necklace? Give me a break!

I'm sick of the way reviewers keep calling this the first black superhero film. It's the sixth, at best. In 1997 there was Spawn, starring Michael Jai White, based on Image Comics' character Spawn. In 1998 there was Blade, starring Wesley Snipes. Blade is a bona fide Marvel superhero and part of the regular Marvel superhero comics universe. So while Black Panther might be the first MCU black superhero film, it's not even the first Marvel black superhero film. And Blade had two sequels, in 2002 and 2004. I'm a fan of the Blade movies myself, and the spinoff tv show. And there's also Catwoman in 2004, starring Halle Berry as a black version of that character. So no way is Black Panther the first.

I've previously discussed how the film should have cast an actor from Africa in the lead role. Now I've been very disappointed to read that (as I suspected) this movie wasn't even filmed in Africa. They make a film about Africa and they can't even give an African country the business? Or employ an African crew? Authenticity, please! Films filmed in Africa have a different feel to films filmed in other places. Every place has its ambience and Africa is no exception. It's in the quality of the light, the heartbeat of the land. Nothing can substitute for filming this in Africa.

I get that this movie is important, but not only is it less of a landmark than people claim (because it's NOT the first black superhero film), but it could have been so much more than it is. It could have been Hollywood's welcome to Africa, African actors, the African film industry. Spawn, in 1997, was the first major superhero movie about a black superhero (that I know of), but the Black Panther is the first one about an AFRICAN superhero. It's a pity they couldn't have made the most of that and made it more authentically African.
